Am I getting as much go out of my stock 87 tbird as I shoud?

Heyas, I think I asked this question on some other forum (non-car) and someone directed me here.

I'm not really a car person, but I thought my totally stock 87 Thunderbird 5L should have better pickup. I bought the car a few year and I'd say it's on par with a minivan when it comes to acceleration. I know I can't expect much help if you do tell me it's sluggish, considering that I don't know much about it, but I'd just like to know whether I should have a mechanic take a look at it or not.

nope that is normal....  these things weren't fast from the factory....  they only had 150Hp at the CRANK...they are very easy to build up though and make them respectable performers....

Sounds about right for a stock '87...

Though if it hasn't been tuned up lately, may be a good idea...

I see. Well as I said, I'm not a car guy, only knowing what I learned in highschool when I took auto 1. But what kind of things do you do to get more power from these cars?

Search "HO conversion"  "e7 heads" and  "gt40"  That should get ya started real well. ;)
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

you know i got a 5l so in mine. and with the many clutches in the aod, if you were to let off and get back on it WOT, if you go WOT pause for like enough time for you to push a clutch in and like by 60mph blip the throttle 3 times it'll get going.  i haven't raced anyone like that or anything but it see in the butt dyno to have an effect.
