What suspention do I actually have?

Ok, here we go. my car is a Fila. No shiznit right. Here is where it gets interesting. On a Fila handout from teh dealer, it ways, and I qoute the paper)
* Speical handeling suspention
* Traction Lock rear end

Does this mean something speical (T/c suspention maybe) or just PR bullshiznit? I think this as on the same handout it says 3.8 V6, Electronic Fuel injection and digital gauges. So WTF?

K, just to clarify...the dealership brochures go through a lot of revisions and can contain information about a vehicle that may or may not be true. In other words, just because something is printed in the brochure doesn't make it so. The Fila Edition may have those as stock equipment...or they may have been optional. The dealer order books contain the most accurate information about these cars (although there are a few errors).

Have you looked for your build sheet yet? It *should* be under the cushion, underneath the passenger seat (if it's not there, try under the back seat). That will give you a full list of the options on your car.

On the tag on the driver's door jamb, look for the code under AX on the far right. That's your axle code. Report the code back here and we can decode it for you (or check it here). Same thing for the springs...they are listed on that tag, next to the transmission code (last 4 characters are the spring codes). I believe I have some information about those codes somewhere.

EDIT: While you're checking the door tag...see if the interior trim code is GW. I have a picture of a perforated white seat with that code for 1984. Just curious if it's what you have.

According to the Ax code it's a 3.08 opem. It would light them both up and did 99% of the time if you did a brakestand. I kno wpoen's are know to do this also so I'll wonder till I open it up for new gears.
The spring code is T66JJ.
Whatever R is, it's 6
Thats all i have for that part of the code, there's nothing else there. As for the build sheet, you say under the seats. Does it require pulling the seats from the car to find them. Didn't see it under the back seat when it was out.

Yeah, you have to remove the front passenger seat, flip it over, you should see the build sheet trapped between the foam and the wire frame. It's a real mother to remove...you have to unzip the material on the seat bottom, partially remove it, get the foam up as high as possible and then reach in and get the build sheet.

The code for the heavy duty suspension for 1984 was 662. That will be on the build sheet somewhere.

For the springs...I have part numbers but not the spring rates (I think Chuck W has that info).

LF (6): D9AC-ANA9270-8AG
RF (6): D9AC-ANA9270-9AG
LR (J): E0AC-JA9270-8QN
RR (J): E0AC-JA9270-9QN

So I have... A HD suspension. Nothing overly special. Any clue on the ass end though. I'm not even sure if it's the original rear that was on the car. I know on the cover bolts there should be a "tag" but there isn't. And the rear is cleaner/newer/not as old looking as the rest under there. As for the seat build sheet sound like when I hopefuly get my raven seats soon. Then I'll play with those.

P.S. what is the R which has a 6 under it and what does it mean?

R is the radio code.
6 is: Radio AM/FM/MPX, Electronic Search Cassette

Not sure if that means electronic search radio or cassette.

I think E search. I never saw the original radio. I do know it has preimum sound though.
Whats the difference between HD suspention and T/c. since I susposidaly have a trac-loc rear and all.

In 83-86, jack . Rear axle and swaybars are pretty much the only difference. Control arms, bushings, brakes, etc are all the same.

I can't understand where you keep getting the idea you have a trac-loc rear.  Jack the rear of the car up, spin one tire by hand and watch which direction the other tire goes.  If it spins the same direction, you have traction-lock, if it spins opposite, you don't.  Spinning both tires in gravel is not proof that you have traction loc.

Youve got to remember, Fila is an appearance package, not a performance package.
It's Gumby's fault.
