Foglights Question

I want to put a bumper assembly with foglights from an 87 Turbo on my 87 T-Bird.Will I also have to use the Turbo bumper cover also?The reason I am going to change the bumper assemble is because I was unable to mount the foglight bracket on the bumper assembly of may non-turbo.Could not get them to lineup.

Wait a minit - are you saying you need the TC bumper support AND the bumper cover, or just the bumper cover? If the support is needed I may have to see if that old, crushed hulk that's left of my parts TC still has the supports on it...

Yeah, I think they are different. IIRC the Turbo Coupe's bumper cover is "pointier" than the base/LX cover. There is a bunch of extra foam padding in behind that point on the TC cover. I do know that the license plate brackets do not interchange between the two. Everything is completely different on them, save for the mounting bolts and holes. I think that's also why it was easier to find a front air dam for the ground effects for an LX...there would have been two different molds needed for both bumpers.

You'll have to switch everything over...  but I'd take the TC bumper over the base bumper anyway...  looks more aggressive...

I felt I would have to change over everything.I should have all I need for the swap.The weather is my problem now,I am getting to old to be on the ground this time of year.My job would allow me to work their on weekends until guys got to stealing.But somehow I,ll get this done before spring.I have the rear and side ground effects from a Cougar,so the from should match up with it.Thanks for all the advice.

just to throw in my 2 cents, the covers are, of course, different, however!, the bumper bar behind the cover is the same.  wait before everyone throws me under the bus, and slams it in reverse.... on front of the bumper bar(reinforcement) whatever you want to call it, there is a black plastic piece(support) that snaps on to the center.  this is where the difference is.  the tc is fatter and more "pointy" than the reg. bird., however, with the bar being common, the holes for the factory fog lamp brackets are there and are the same as the tc.  i say this as i have a '88 ls with the cover off, and a 88 tc with the cover off and noticed this about 4 yrs ago.  maybe it will help someone.  i would bet you could prolly use a tc cover on a base bumper with no prob. maybe just a little give in the center, but would be unsure if a base cover would fit with the different size, shape support bracket......

I open up the fog ligths to check the blubs and they are both all rusted inside.Their are two wires,one hooks up to the buld and the other one is loose( its the ground).Looks like it went to something that has now rusted away.Where should I put that loose wire?The inside of the housing has a metal plate that the four ribbits in it.It is rusted bad.Do I need new foglight? I want to keep the same brackets.

Well I've got a bit of clarification of the TC VS non-TC bumper supports: They are identical. The only differences I found are that the non-TC support has black paint on it in places, likely to hide it where it would be visible through the holes in the non-TC bumper cover and grille.

Here you can see the TC bumper support I removed from the '87 TC parts car sitting on top of the non-TC support still bolted to my '88 5.0:



And the black plastic thing on my '88 is just as pointy as it is on the TC:


...So I guess I went over and rescued that support off the parts TC for no reason. Here I was happy as a pig in shiznit that even though the TC was crushed AND burned the support was OK...

whats the easiestwy to get these foglight open to change bulbs  do i need to remove them from the car or do i just take out the two front screws

Two front screws should do it if they're stock TC-style fog lights
