Foyota? Reply #2 – December 26, 2006, 09:08:13 PM Actually joint ventures like this are common - GM has had partnerships with Toyota (Vibe/Matrix, Corrolla/Nova, and GM even talked Toyota into selling the Cavalier in puppiesan) and Honda (Honda builds the V6 in the Saturn Vue). Ford has done things with Nissan (Vilager/Quest), and Domestics even go to bed with other domestics (the new 6-speed trannies GM and Ford are coming out with are a joint venture, as are many steering and driveline components). puppiesanese manufacturers have done it too (Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo, Honda Odyssey/Isuzu whatever), and everyone's done it with Koreans as well (Ford Aspire = Kia, Pontiac Lemans = Daewoo, Hyundai used many Mitsubishi engines). Jaguars and Volvos have had GM transmissions (even though Volvo is owned by Ford the inline-6 FWD models continue to use the 4T60 tranny), Land Rovers have had Buick, BMW and Ford engines, and so on.It'll be interesting to see what comes of this, though... Foyota? Reply #7 – December 27, 2006, 02:11:55 AM Yeah, the Probe was a Mazda 626. This may be the first time that Ford and Toyota have linked up. There's a lot worse companies to join up with than Toyota, bad as I hate to say it. I've been an engineer in the automotive industry for 7 or 8 years, and one thing I've noticed is that Toyotas' demand never seems to fall off. Right now Ford's business sure is.Fordman3 Quote Selected

Chassis was puppiesan-sourced, based from a 626.The first-gen probes even shared the same dash as the 626's of the same years.Even as far back as the 70's, there's been partnrships with Asian auto manufacturers. Iaccoca (at the time VP of Ford) went to puppiesan to have talks with the chairman of Honda...fascinating story, his autobiography is... Quote Selected

Foyota? Reply #10 – December 27, 2006, 05:31:47 AM Guess there's nothing you can do about it. Like it or not we face Global economy.Remember Fiat? I noticed most cars enthusiasts in US think they went bankrupt! They've become small cars expert in Europe! I'm not sure if you are familiar with the smallest European Ford - Ka. Introduced in 1996 (the dark red one in the pic), still well selling with minor styling touch ups. The newest Ka (blue) will be mostly based on all new Fiat 500 (Cinquecento). Platform, engines and problably all the switches etc. It will be manufactured in Fiat assembly plant in Tychy, Poland.GM is also cooperating with Fiat here. Many Opels share parts with Fiat now!You probably 'like' ;) Citroen and Peugeot too, huh? They are called PSA Group. Do you know that Ford is manufacturing all the new common-rail diesel engines with PSA Group?Ford was also cooperating with VW. They had a van called Galaxy that was actually a VW Sharan, a totally uncomfortable compared to Windstar, but it was in European style! Thankfully the all new Galaxy is based on the Ford/Volvo platform. It's possible that American Ford Fusion shares the same platform.I could list much more of those Ford 'better ideas', but I think that all cars manufacturers have to go 'global' to survive. Probably that's why the only 'modern' car I'd like to have is the 1998 (that's like new for me) Lincoln Mark VIII LSC. That's the last good old Ford except Crown Victoria in my opinion. Foyota? Reply #12 – January 01, 2007, 03:50:01 PM Toyota and GM have an alliance right now in CA. Pontiac Vibes are built with Toyota econoboxes, and TacomasI don't see what a Toyota meeting would render. They will just tell them to get rid of the unions and retirements and save $3000 per vehicle. Quote Selected
