Axle Lengths January 04, 2005, 09:36:13 PM Hey guys, Im am currently running a TC 8.8 rear end. When I swapped the rear end into my 88 tbird 3.8 I used the 7.5 axles and kept the rear drum brakes. I later observed that the 7.5 axles were too long and the bearings did not contact the bearing surface on the axles. I replaced the bearings with axle saver bearings which placed the bearings further out and allowed them to contact and seal on the axle. With this said, everything I read says that the 1988 7.5 axles and 87/88 TC axles are the same length. I can verify that this is not true as it seems the TC rear uses shorter axles by about 1/4-1/2in on each side. I am reseaching this because I am about to oder custom Moser axles and need to know the length for an 8.8 TC rear. I need advice from those who have done this before and have some experience. Now I know what shoulda woulda but we all know that actual values can differ from the theoretical ones. Thanks guysRonnie Quote Selected
Re: Axle Lengths Reply #1 – January 04, 2005, 11:20:29 PM I have 88 TC 8.8 with strange Axles and spool. I called them told them what i have and they had axles, C clips spool all as a kit. Not sure what size is so just call and tell the company, I'm going to be getting new axles this spring and will ask for them to be half inch longer so they engage more of the spines in the spool.
