The transmissions used in 5.0 F-150's were the Mazda-sourced M5OD
and used a hydraulic activated clutch, at least from 87 up.
No manual tranny was ever an option on a 5.8 F-150.
The 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with 5.8, 460, and diesel engines used a ZF, whish is far stronger than any M5OD.
Not sure about Rangers, I would assume though that the last few years have had a HYD. clutch setup...
