Weird wiring! Removing an alarm system, but...
All,
When I got my T-bird about 2 years ago, there was this alarm system called the UNGO box that the first owner had had a shop install for him. He said that the actual alarm part under the hood didn't work anymore, but that the beeper-alarm inside the car still did.
Great . . so the only people who're alerted to the car being stolen are the people stealing it. Maybe if it annoys them enough, they'll leave the car.
Anyway, since I'd never use the alarm, I figured I'd remove it. Someday.
Since I had to replace my ignition switch, someday became today.
Of course, this system apparently involved wires spliced together here and there, odd bullet connectors, relays, etc. What have I gotten myself into?!?!
I think I pretty much removed it, though, Still, some strange wires here and there are still in the car. I pretty much cut them and taped them off for now, but I was wondering if anyone knew what they were, or if they could be completely removed because they weren't part of the car in the first place.
There are still:
1) A brown wire that went into a relay that ultimately hooked into the alarm box. I just taped this one off. It seems to go behind the headlight switch and get taped into another wire somewhere out of sight.
2) A white wire from the alarm box labeled "triggering - instant" that goes behind where the parking brake foot-pedal is, has a bullet connector to a black wire, and that black wire goes under the rail which would be below the driver's door. Once it got past the back edge of the door, proceeding further rearward, I gave up following it, as I didn't feel like taking apart various plastic interior panels. Cut this one near where the black and white parts meet at the bullet connector, and taped it off.
3) A purple wire from the alarm box labeled "passive arming" which wandered up somewhere behind the stereo or equalizer as far as I could reach, and, like the brown one, seems to get taped into another wire.
4) A thicker red wire. This one was connected to a relay that was also connected to the brown wire I mentioned in #1 above. It runs through the firewall, to a 20-amp fuse near the starter solenoid, then to the large terminal closest to the firewall on the solenoid itself. I've also cut this one and taped it off. Car still starts just fine.
5) Also, in the steering column, if you look at the ignition switch as-installed, there are two wires (a brown (looks blue in the photo for some reason)with a stripe, and a red with a stripe) that both come out of a single place in the switch, the one second closest to the firewall, on the lower row. These were merged into a single wire, which goes into a relay, then comes out of another terminal on that relay, which then gets split back into two wires of the same color as originally again. There used to be other items on that relay when the alarm was still in the car. I've taken pictures below.
Anyway, if anyone's dealt with alarm systems installed before, and knows what's going on here, I'd appreciate any guidance. Also, can I remove the relay in #5 above and just splice those wires together? Finally, that wire through the firewall to the 20-amp fuse near the solenoid, is that removeable? There's another (heavier) wire that goes to a 30-amp fuse right in that same area underhood, though that one seems to go into the firewall somewhere near the passenger side (?).
Oh, and apologies for the py photos.
