Replacement 3.8 battery?

Well I think the battery in my car has had it.  Once the car is running it does read 14.4 volts at the battery so I think the alt is ok.  So I have been trying to get ahold of a new battery.  So far Wal-Mart/Costco/Canadian Tire don't have any.  I've bought 1 from CT, and 1 from a local auto parts store.  Neither would fit.  I don't want to have to make battery tray mods, I just want to drop in a replacement.  I took out the tray and will see if I can get one tomorrow.  Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with trying to get a replacement battery for their 3.8 cars?

Jason, what year is your car?

I bought a genuine Motorcraft battery about, oh, 5-6 years ago. It was originally for my '86 5.0 convertible and is very small (I want to say it's a Group 27). But it happens to be perfect for the '88 3.8 battery tray, and I know it will fit earlier 3.8 trays also.

Well if your battery is on the driver side then a 58/65 series will fit. If its on the passenger side, it uses a narrower battery that I believe is a 56 series.

*edit* it is the 56 series, just checked.

'86, and group 62.  Finally after 3 batteries I have one that fits.  :D  I guess the last parts guy had a slight case of dyslexia.  Mixed up the last two digits of the battery part number.  I had my tray with me just in case.  Back on the road now.  Thanks

I'm glad that your never start is working for you. I personally don't buy any auto stuff at wally world. I know people that work their and they don't even buy stuff from them. Also I rember somthing about the A/c oil filters being the mexican version and they aren't the same as the american ones. They had a big deal about it when I worked in the acqusistions dept. Anyhow I'd steer clear of them for auto parts.

2. Duralast 65-DL  $60  (Autozone)
3. EverStart MAXX-65N $60 (Walmart)

There is also a EverStart MAXX-65S, that is number 14 on the list.

Where you live determines which one they stock.
