My junkyard find October 16, 2006, 10:43:08 PM Well i went up to another junkyard today after work and i was lookin around for tbirds. well i found one and was walking back to ask how much they wanted for the bumper cover and i saw my old geo that we junked a few months ago. After looking at it for a minute i started walking up the road and something caught my eye. So i went and got a closer look and sure enough there it was the header panel of a TC. Its in real good shape, especially since its a car that came from NY, other than the interior cause of an electrical fire. Fenders are nice and straight not much rust on it at all even the door bottoms arent too rusty. I spent 2 hours trying to dig out the front bumper to get the bottom bolts of the bumper cover out. I couldnt even break the bolts off and they usually break at the first attempt to remove them. I think i will head back for the fenders and trunk lid and ask about the rear end. i dont know if i want the hood bad enough to pay the $50 they want for it. It was really in good shape its a shame people dont know how to wire things otherwise it would still be on the road. :pbb:How would you all suggest i go about painting this. Should i try to strip the old paint or should i just sand it with fine grit sandpaper and paint over it. I tried stripping one i had before and it didnt work worth a . Quote Selected
My junkyard find Reply #1 – October 16, 2006, 10:54:02 PM I would probably just sand it enough to get primer and paint to stick to it. Paint strippers might hurt that soft plastic. Quote Selected
My junkyard find Reply #2 – October 16, 2006, 10:57:16 PM Aslong as the curent paint isnt cracked paint over it. Quote Selected
My junkyard find Reply #4 – October 16, 2006, 11:14:19 PM Best way to paint it...box it up really nice, send it to me...I'll paint it white, and even install it for you..ON MY CAR!! Yeah, just sand it a bit, just enough to very lightly roughen the existing paint, then several thin coats of primer, and then paint, and call it done. shame, I wish the TC I'd bought this past summer had had a good bumper, I even got the foglights, although I need a new lens for one of em.Nice looking bumper cover, good shape, and if you had 50 bucks to spare, I'd get that hood if I were you...someone may need one someday Quote Selected
My junkyard find Reply #5 – October 16, 2006, 11:19:07 PM I got the foglights too. I may get the hood still i just think its kinda funny that he raised the price of that hood cause it has "louvers". then he said 50 for the trunk from it too. i wish i could have gotten in the trunk of the other car they had so i could check the trunk on it. i think he thought there was something "special" about the trunk lid on the car too. My junkyard find Reply #7 – October 17, 2006, 08:15:13 AM I found a TC in a local yard that color. The drivetrain and hood were still there, but the nose and bumper were gone.Nothing I needed. The Turbo guys would appreciate what it has to offer more than I would. Quote Selected
My junkyard find Reply #8 – October 17, 2006, 09:39:41 AM Make sure you add some flex agent to the paint and some adhesion promoter. That way the paint will stick and it will flex with the cover not just flake off. Good find. That isn't a bad deal on the hood. Before I got the one I have I could only find one and they wanted $100 for it and it was hail damaged pretty bad. I didpick up a spare read decklid with wing on it for $20. So mayve he is trying to get more for the hood by charging you more for the trunk lid. Quote Selected
