Possible new heart for my bird

Just picked up an 5.0 HO from a 92 lx mustang, the engine only has 78000 miles and is complete from oilpan plug to intake and flywheel to waterpump includes the mass air stuff as well. I paid 450 bucks for it and heard it running before purchase which was a bonus. Now instead of doing the HO conversion I will probably yank the original motor and plop this one in its place. Other than a good cleaning it really doesn't need a thing. With this motor I can now use the aluminum heads i purchaced without any piston to valve clearance issues.:D :D :D

Any comments or advise from folks that have been down this road...?

I know the engine is good as i dropped the oil and had a good look, i had the chance to run the engine through the rpm range and had a good listen and there was not a peep. The car was taken care of extemely well as the car was still great shape on the drivers side as well the interior was mint, the reason it was being parted was because someone couldnt stay between the lines when they fell asleep   and ran it into the trees along the passenger side. From about the back foot of the front fender to the rear of the car was seriously smooshed from what i can gather by some very large trees.

Well i have got an A9P computer with entire harness but i believe another member of this board will be buying it off me this weekend, I have decided to go with an aftermarket  computer etc from a company here in Calgary... Western Motorsports, http://www.wmsracing.com. I have heard great things about the system they offer, check out their site and read about it its pretty cool. Its a little pricy but you get what you pay for IMHO. Throughout the winter I will complete the swap, just looking for a slight upgrade in intakes and TB etc in the meantime to compliment the heads.
Also picked up a 7.5 Mustang rear to grab the gears and diff from w/ LS 3.27 gears in it from the same guy for $100.00, It came from a 85 auto 5.0 stang...please save the harping on the 7.5 rear, for what i will be doing with the car the 7.5 will work just fine.

You might as well save those aluminum heads for something else then...you won't need them if you're going to be driving like grandma with that handgrenade attached to the back of your driveshaft.  Sounds like a good, fun project, good luck with it!

Fair enough...but I could have sold you an HO upper plenum plate much cheaper than $450.  Sorry man, not trying to be an ass, but I don't understand the idea of putting together a badass combo(with the exception of a weeny rear) just to putz around in...I understand people enjoy "cruising", but even a stock CFI 3.8 will do that just fine.

Regardless of my opinion on your reasoning for this project, Good luck with it! lol

Hears my story...Years and years ago (20)I had an 83 mustang Gt with of course the 7.5 rear end, At the time I was 17/18 years old and had NO respect for my vehicles and I beat that car like a rented mule... racing it, texas teardrop burnouts, doughnuts over doughnuts you name it what ever you can do to a car  to help destroy a drive train I did it and after 240,000km I sold it to buy another stang. Not once did i have an issue with the rear end granading (clutches yes), there was nothing wrong with that rear AT ALL and the owner who had it after me enjoyed it for a further 5 years after me with no rear end issues what so ever. I am a firm believer that unless that rear is going to be at a track every weekend doing hard launches with slicks it will be fine.
Most folks that i know that have had trouble with these rears is after they have over or near a couple hundred thousand miles on it.
As now I crawl on 40 years of age i unfortunately do not spend any time at a track as i do not have time in the least for that as well i would like to think having high 200 horse engine in my bird to shut a ricer up here or there or to show off once in a while when i want is quite acceptable. And the last reason i am doing this...virtually every V6 and V8 car on the road today has 200-300 hp and I would just like to keep up with the Jones if you know what i mean...So Ya theres the story!
