Title: octane rod on dizzy
Post by: jcassity on December 24, 2004, 09:15:41 AM
has anyone ever tinkered with the octane rod on the distributor?
it seems you could use this to adjust the stator assy in the distributor to time when the armature does its thing but ive never messed with it.

I think it'd be cool to hook up to a small servo and have a "Premium Fuel" switch as the TurboCoupes do.

The octane rod is just one of Fords stupid ideas... The deal was to change the rod and not move the distributor to change the timing.

As I said......STUPID!!!

ok,, now im curious cause ive had the dizzy down to parade rest many times and i question one thing.

can it be assembled incorrectly so the octane rod is out of wack or is it as simple as it looks, tighten up the bolt till it stops.

Yep it's as simple as it looks. There were different length rods to set the octane requirement, all they did was change the base timing.

I think the purpose of the octane rod was for travel some places outside the U.S. where they had gas with a lower octane than our regular.
You replaced the standard rod with one that retarded the spark.
