Scanning them is on my long list of things to do so it might be awhile since buying a scanner is on that list too!  :)

I’ll keep you in mind when I get to it…

You won't like the price of the tires though.

Yes they are. Know anyone that wants a near mint set? I can't get rid of the things. I keep telling my self to make bar stools out of them. The tires are in like $250 a piece and come from France which means they will take a month to get here.

Yeah.  The TRX thing was Ford's attempt to get a jump on the 'move to the metric system' but then that didn't happen, these wierd 390mm tires fell by the wayside.

Barstool!

Ya bolt an axle shaft to the rims the wrong way then cut the end of it off and weld a plate to it. Then cover the plate with a cushion.

WALLA Barstool.

Cool photos.

I have the original set of TRXs from the '86. I think I'll keep them around for shows and whatnot in the future. Heh, with everyone making barstools of theirs, I'll have the only set actually usable on a car meaning they'll be rare and worth something...;)
I'll just have to take out a loan to buy the tires.

They look great on the cars, but the tires are scary.  Especially in the wet.

Especially in the wet.

They weren't too bad on the back of my tempo but I did have to roll the lip on the quarter to fit them in.

I can't even count the number of times the XR-7 slid halfway into intersections while trying to stop in the wet....and that was not speeding either.... with 75% tread tires... :nono:

On the back of a FWD Tempo and on all 4 corners of a heavier RWD car are two different things.

Magazine articles of the time panned the TRX wheels as well. A quote of the May 1984 Car and Driver road test of the XR-7:

Quote from: Car and Driver
When we sought out a piece of challenging road in the XR-7, we discovered a serious deterioration in ride quality from that of the Turbo Coupe we last drove, a situation most likely caused by the XR-7's optional Michelin TRX 220/55R390 tires. The Michelins exploit the weakness of the XR-7's live axle suspension and deliver a much harsher ride than the Goodyear Eagle GT P205/70HR14 tires (standard on the Turbo Coupe and XR-7). Crash and bang over freeway expansion strips were quite a bit more severe than in the Goodyear-shod Bird. Over rough pavement, the XR-7 totally lost its composure, successive one-wheel bumps caused the body to cycle nervously on its four corners. This uncomfortable loose feeling got worse as speed increased, a condition that wasn't helped by Ford's characteristically numb steering. In snow, the tires were diabolic: each time the turbo kicked in, the XR-7's rear end snapped out of line. We're convinced that the money for the extra-cost Michelins would be better spent on your stamp collection.

Ya know, it's kind of interesting how I came across my set of TRX wheels.
In the town I used to live in (Brookfield), some friends of mine had an '88 Tbird, exactly like mine...white/porn red int...and those  TRX wheels. Well, they needed tires after awhile, so they called me to see what size tires it took. When I told them that it would cost over 800 bucks for tires for those wheels, they  near ped their pants.
So, I sold 'em my old chrome directional 14" Prime wheels from my first Tbird, and told em to knock off 25 bucks for the metric POS wheels.
If I knew then what i knew now, I'd have CHARGED them 25 just to take the things off their hands...:giggle:
Anywho, right after they bought that car, I remember driving it, and telling them that "there's something God-awful wrong with the suspension"....not realizing till later how much they made any vehicle they were on handle like the chassis was made of jello.
I put them on that ASC Capri I had for a few days, while I was running the Capri wheels on my Tbird, and when I drove the Capri, it made it feel all boogery too.
Wyoming_bird, if you want those wheels...they're yours for 25 bucks :D
I'll even deliver em sometime...can't beat that :giggle:
ps..except for centers, they're in realllly good shape..
