There's a relatively local lady selling a TC, that just happens to be near identical to Layla (except stock [Big Grin] ) 88, Med Red, red interior (hers is cloth, mine is leather), moonroof, 5-Speed, EATC, dual seats, auto-dim, premo sound, power antenna, cornering lamps, and keyless. So I got her VIN, but it's just BIZARRE. It's 1FABP32X9HK136827 . Every one of my previous TC's (around 15 or so) has shown P64. According to a VIN decoder, P32 should be:
32. ESCORT 2-DOOR HATCHBACK GL
32. LTD 2-DOOR SEDAN
32. TEMPO 2-DOOR SEDAN LX
32. TOPAZ 2-DOOR SEDAN LS
What's up with that? Then there's the X. All of my previous TC's are D, T, or W for engine VIN, specifying 2.3 TURBO, the X specifies regular 2.3? Then there's the K, which is the Kansas plant. I though ALL the 83-88 T-Birds/Cougars were from Loraine (H)? Does any of this seem wrong to you guys? CARFAX even says it's a Tempo!!

dunno man...but could it be possible that the wrong VIN tag put on at the plant??? Might maybe could be a "rare" find...but....how in hell did it slip past insurance and license offices??
I'm starting to think it's a shady rebuild myself, I need to look at the car and see what VIN is printed on all the anti-theft tags. She has a clear title too, so I dunno?

What in the world?
Perhaps it was stolen and/or the VIN was swapped? I have no idea.
For the most part, yes. There was additional production in Atlanta in 1985 (A). I do not know how the Atlanta and Lorain VIN's correlate though.
Would be the same other than the subistution of the "A" plant code in the VIN... Theoreticaly it's possible to have two identical cars with the same VIN except for the assembly plant code.
Wheather it's stolen or not we don't know, but It's been re-VIN'ed for sure. Possibly there was a lein on the title of a previous owner, still it is a federal offence. Usually the insurance Co's will catch it when they enter info in their computer and it comes up Tempo vs Tbird. Then maybe she has a Tempo and just got the registrations confused, you actually seen the VIN plate???
And did you notice the VIN is for a '87 Tempo not '88???
Look around on the hood, doors fenders, deck lid etc, there were labels placed at the factory with the original VIN...
Are you sure its a T-bird? lol jk
i'd deffinatly check the door sticker, dash plate, and the tags in the trunk and under the hood on the fenders. and i wouldnt buy it without telling somebody, like the cops to see if its even legal to own like that. could it possibly be stolen too? they could have at least gotten another vin from a tbird...
-somethings not right somewhere........
I'm going to cry if that's what the dash VIN plate really says. The car only has a 110K miles and is nicer then Layla. They can't have it the s!! I need to go look at the car and title myself and see for sure what's up.
If the VIN's not right, what makes you think the odometer is..?
Thats the best reply I've heard yet....
how many owners did the car have? was she the original or did she buy it from some one else? and im just throwing this out there but could it be a flood car? if it was and some one picked it up for cheap lets say in 1993 (from St.louis) and the vin was know to be a flood car and they cleaned it up and swicthed the vin on a junker they had and turned a little money off of it. does anyone know how much water it takes to have the insurance total it, as far as water height?
Birdman,
Hey guess what? I know the lady who has this Bizarre TC VIN. It's Me!! Surprise.......... Small world I would say!!!
Yes, it is the Vin on a 1987 Ford Tempo. I gave the car to my Son Shawn for his family a while back.
And while I was posting the Vin I posted the one for the Tempo. So Sorry about that. I do have original registration for car. Oh how dumb can I be sometimes.
However the correct VIN# straight from the clear titile I have in my hand. Is #1FABP64TXJH203661. I do apoligize for my dumb mistake.
Check your email Michael, I sent a crazy one to ya.
Nanna's Tc
Hahaha! I knew it was going to be something like that. I have somebody VERY intersted in your car, good friend of mine in Mountlake Terrace, he has the same car sans moonroof.
My '83 T-Bird also has a VIN code for Atlanta.
Now everyone knows the big mystery!! Yeah, I know it was pretty dumb of me. I have CRS days!! he! he!
