Title: Disposing of old parts
Post by: Masejoer on May 29, 2006, 02:06:20 PM
Where do people usually take their old parts? Just the dump or someplace like a junkyard. I need this busted radiator gone but unsure where I should take it.

yeah, s yards will pay you by weight for stuff like that. a car shell i stripped got me $7 on time. an entire mark 5 got me like $50. engines get good money too. i dont take anything to junkyards anymore... they never pay, but the s yard pay's and sometimes you get to watch them pick the stuff and throw it around for a while to smash it up :D

Now is a good time to get rid of any brass, copper, aluminum, etc that you have lying around, too - copper is up to about $2.50 a pound right now! The demand for s metal of all sorts has skyrocketed over the past year.

One thing to remember, though - to get the most money, remove any steel that may be attached (like, in the case of radiators, the core supports on top & bottom). They really screw ya if you've got any steel on your copper, brass or aluminum...

Metal really going for good money.  The yard I work at is expanding, as is the local competition.  We can't ship this stuff out as fast as it's comming in!

Maybe I will take my old S.O. intake by the metal yard.  It weights a couple pounds at least.  It's not worth anything b/c everybody wants the H.O. parts.
