ok i just bought some bosch platinum 4 pr0ng spark plugs. but me and my dad are confused on how to gap them. and he wont put them in until he gets how to do it. so can anybody tell me how much u have to gap them on an 87 3.8 v6?
you do not gap them.
btw take them back and get some good old copper plugs.
Yeah, those platinums are pre gapped so nothing needs to be done with them but put them in.
Now I know the 5.0s work best with the old plain jane styled plugs but the 3.8, I don't know.
at 4.99 a plug it is rediculous. in theory they should work but block flame travel ....
a regular copper plug or even a single platinum plug will yeild better performance. wich is why i assume you bought them for your 3.8 .
p.s you are not supposed to gap any platinum/iridium plug due to possible damage to the fine wire in the porcelin.
Best place for a Bosch Platinum 4 IMHO.
Having worked at an autoparts store and recieving literature on Bosch Platinum plugs (hence keychain). They changed the reasoning for the 4 tips 3 times in like 1 year..

I had Bosch platinum plugs (single electrode) in my Tbird for a year. The car ran like . I bought a set of factory Motorcraft copper plugs and the car runs like new. The platinum plugs are a waste of money unless you just don't want to change your plugs every 2 or 3 years. Oh yeah the Bosch platinum plugs did something that scared the hell out of me. The little metal conector at the top of the plug (where the spark plug wire crimps on to) started to unscrew it self :eek: WTF!?
I had regular bosch platinum plugs in my 80 and it loved them so much i'm going to put a set in to the 82, Nothings worse than the champion copper plugs, I used to run them in the sprunt only because I changed them weekly, champoion plugs are for lawnmowers.

Nothing runs better in a Mopar then a Champion.. ( old timer words, but seems to be true)
Our engines were designed to run with Motorcraft/Autolite plugs after all.
I ran a set of copper Champions for 2 years my Trick Flow headed 5.0 ran fine on them... It did pick up approx .2 at the track with a new set of Autolites, but as I said they were two years old...
The wifes 4.6 Grand Marquis has over 5 years and 60,000+ miles on a set of Autolite platniums, they are very good plugs...
I've tryed several brands and various models in my 5.0
The only thing that works decently is the Motorcraft original

I have AC Delco coppers in my 90, had them in my 88 as well and ran great. the # is like TS34 or something I cant remember.
i forgot to addd to mine i run autolite25's or motorcraft plugs,
bosch supers if i plan on spraying alot because they are cheap.
My 96 Mark8 ran good on the platinums because that is what Lincoln intended. My 87 and 88 Cougars ran like on platinums, missing once every few seconds during idle was the most noticeable affect of platinums. I put the copper core Autolites in and it all cleared up.
My 87 V6 Cougar though didn't seem to be affected by the platinums as much as my 87 and 88 V8 Cougars were. I would still go with the Autolite copper core or Motorcraft copper plugs regardless.
