Title: #18 Fuse
Post by: 88sportcoupe on February 19, 2006, 09:14:55 AM
for some strange reason the fuse in the #18 spot keeps blowing out so my tach and speedo dont work the first couple times it would be alright for a month or so but then it would just blow out. From what the diagram says i dont think i have the autolamp and i dont know what the "dual timer chime" is but it is getting frustrating because now as soon as i turn on the key on the fuse blows. any ideas on what to check for? I have automotive electrical experience but i dont want to have to start chasing wires blindly. Thanks
Andrew

Unplug the cluster and see if the fuse blows. Inspect the cluster backing to make sure the printed circuit is OK (I have one here that has melted, so it is definitely a possibility). Check the cluster wiring harness to see if it has chaffed on some dash metal.

My power distribution drawing shows #18 10amp as:
Automatic headlamp dimmer
Automatic temperatur control
Flash to pass relay
Low oil level relay
Low fuel warning
Warning chime
Instrument cluster
All are R/Y wires.

Its connected to: lights on, door adjar, seat belts, ingition key,
keyless entry module, and tone output to instrument cluster.
The module is located behind LH instrument panel with a 10 wire plug.
The numbers and colors of wires vary a bit from model to model depending on which dash you've got.
