What exactly is the difference between these two lers, anyway?
My brother bought some Super 40's for his truck, and as far as I can tell all they are is Delta Flow 40's that are painted black. :dunno:
Also, he had them put on his truck ('90 F-350 with a 460), they put on new 2 1/2" pipes from the manifolds back, no cats, with a small crossover pipe, and then dumps right behind the rear axle. It sounds good, but it's nowhere near as loud as I thought it was gonna be. I'm wondering if it will get louder once those Flows get broken in? (I know my old mustang sounded a lot different after a couple hundred miles of driving)
My understanding is that the Super 40 is classic style and the Delta 40 has triangular (hence delta) shaped deflectors inside one or two of the chambers. I know I've messed with both styles but can't remember on which cars and exactly what it was like - but I'm pretty sure unless you have super human senses theres not a huge difference.
The Delta is an updated version, the delta's are supposed to help with drone (give or take, something to that effect)
Well, that's what I'm saying...the Super 40's have the delta flow director things in them too, just like the delta flow 40's :dunno:
They still sell the "classic" 40's also.
well, all i can tell you as far as my experiance goes, the super 40s are pretty quiet (got em on my car) compared to 40s....
Hmm how can a ler with no parts that can compact or compress break in? There is no fiberglass in a flowmaster.
Oh, I was lost for a minute there - had to re-read that about three times. I'm getting Super 40's and Classic 40's mixed up. Sorry. I dont think i have much experience with super 40s.
My old V8 dakota was pretty tame for the first few days a got it back from the ler shop, but it got progresively louder as the flows "broke in" So I would imagine thats the same case with the 460.
Don't ask me, but they do. I don't know about V8's, but on my 2.3L Mustang I put a 40-series on it and the tone changed significantly after a couple hundred miles of having it on (it got better actually)
I'm still at a loss. Nothing can change in that ler. With all the baffles in place it can't even flex or expand. I don't understand, maybe someone else can elaborate?
Same here - I was dissapointed the first time i cranked up my $300 ler job. It was mild, sucky. After about 250-500 miles the tone changes, usually deeper, louder - or something like that. 318 Chrysler V8.
Most of the newer delta flow lers are quiter then the original 40 series.
I perfer the 1 chamber lers myself... they also come in deltaflow and original series
Flowmaster in the last 3-4 years has gotten plain confusing.....
Its probably the carbon buildup that youll get in the ler that changes the tone.
A lot of lers have fiberglass packing that breaks down over time. When they're new the fiberglass does it's insulating thing better, and obviously as it breaks down, it loses its sound deading properties.
Hmmm, that seems odd. Could've sworn they did. Looks like i'll have to dig up an internal pic of one.
Flowmasters are whats called a chambered ler. No packing.
