Title: Crackling exhaust UPDATEd NEW VIDEO
Post by: Cougarcruisin on January 14, 2006, 01:27:29 PM
Ok I took this video back in September or early october I believe...

Now... that night and any other night when it's rather warm outside, 70 degrees and warmer, my exhaust crackles. As shown in the video. It's less likely to do so when it's cold.

Now during the video I had that py idea of an intake sucking air from the engine cabin. Would that have something to do with it? I'm still awaiting on my intake from Cali. But anyways... here it is.
headers h pipe flowmaster 40s all 2.5"

here is the video. It says it's being optimized. Keep checking if it doesn't show up. Thanks

I would guess the temps have more to do with it than anything else, but I'm not sure.

The exhaust on my car (3" DP, no cat, split to dual 2.5" Hooker Maximum Flow lers and 2.5" tailpipes out the back) pops and burbles when I'm decelerating. I was told that exhaust does that when it has leaks upstream of the tailpipes and air gets into the exhaust :dunno: I like it though.

heres one i had kicking around. never realy bothered posting it cause 1, it blows, 2, im in it. and 3, its got my plates on it and i cant edit them out. what the hell though right...btw, doesnt crackle realy at all.

SO, stock stang tubular headers, stock stang gutted h pipe, flowmasters and  tail pipes. car hadnt been started in a few months, hence the throttle hang. hoping too get a quick burnout vid before the car comes appart.

enjoy it as much as i will ripping it off the car... ;)

Don't know what your mods are, but I put duals on an EFI 302 in a truck+Hpipe & mine did the same thing. I disconected the smog pump from the exhaust & it went away. Warmer temps probably cause a slightly leaner mix and leave less combustables in the exhaust for the final burn or smolder, so they crackle. That's a guess, but I did eliminate the puh-puh-puh in my otherwise sweet soundin' exhaust by dummying the smog pump.

I know w/ my motorcycle, it's running lean when it crackles.  That's how I adjusted the air/fuel mixture.

Ya I'm going to try and see what happens with the new intake. But if its running lean I may have to do some more adjusting. I was watching speed channel today and they put on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Went from 30psi to 65-70psi. I guess it showed some improvements over the stock one. We'll see.  shame302 I was waiting for you to tromp on it! Sounded pretty good anyways.

Cougarcruisin you have the off road h-pipe on that beast don't you?
(sounds sweet.  That is the exact exhaust on my '88 Stang)

That would be your cackling.  put the cats in there and it will go away.

I wish I could post a video.  I have a video of my '85 Cougar disapearing in a cloud of smoke, and coming out of it and going past the camera sideways.  Gotta love posi. LOL

Hmm mine has 2.25 custom bent duals with no H pipe but it has cats. When it's cold and started if it's reved up it cackels through the exhaust even with the cats. As it warms up it goes away. I don't mind it it scares the neighbors :D . Oh yeah I don't have Flowmasters. I have FlowTech Afterburners.

Sounds good Steve. I wouldn't worry about the crackling sound. I think it makes it sound a bit meaner.

I have Lincoln headers, a 2.5" off-road h-pipe and Flowmasters going to the factory 2.25" duals. I haven't really noticed any crackling with mine. Could be since the pipes aren't 2.5" all the way through.
I'll see what it does when I put my Hedmans on it. I've only had them a year and a half and haven't put 'em on yet.

Yah ok thanks everyone for the input.  Since I finally got a digital camera that can take videos I'll be putting some more videos on here for something to do. Hell if the hosting is free, why not!? Hey if anyone can, cuz I still dont have those videos from Cat Jam... can't find my cds. Would someone be willing to post those cat jam videos to that streetfire.net under clubs/organizations. It'd be a nice change compared to seeing all the cameros/imports/vettes/stangs/and all the other stuff that are non-cougars or birds.

Aaah, cracklin’ rosie get on board
We’re gonna ride ‘til there aint no more to go
Taking it slow
Lord don’t you know
Had me a time with a poor man’s lady
Hitchin’ on a twilight train
Aint nothing there that I can’t obtain along
Maybe a song
To sing when I want
No need to say please to a man for a happy tune

“oh I love my rosy child
You got the way to make me happy
You and I will go in style
Cracklin’ rose you’re a stormboard woman
You make me sing like a guitar hummin’
Aint other people that our song keeps running on

Play it now….play it now
Play it now my baby”

Cracklin’ rosie make me a smile
Tied to the glass for an hour
Well that’s alright
‘cos we’ve got all night
To set the world right
No need to say please to a man for a happy tune

Chorus

Cracklin’ rosie make me a smile
Tied to the glass for an hour
Well that’s alright
‘cos we’ve got all night
To set the world right
Life is a dream but don’t ask no questions-yeah

Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba….etc

I have the gutted cats with the air pump intact and mine cracks and pops as well.  Looks like having the air in there is a reason for this according to research on the net.  can be leak as mentioned previously or having the air pump still hooked up.

Depends mostly on how free-flowing the exhaust is, IMO. The less obstruction to flow the more it cackles. I could be wrong. Sounds  Good.
