Yes I have just destroyed another AOD, I hate these transmissions you put anything over 350 to them and they burn up, The one I just had rebuilt lasted 2 weeks with 420 FHp. This will be 4 AOD's in under 2 years. C4 is definately going in soon.

You don't need 350hp to burn them up...150hp does the job just fine. ;)

Ever think about a 4R70W swap? Some good info here: http://www.becontrols.com/tech/aodefaq.htm

Thats is a very good idea, I'm going to look into that 1998 after handle up to 500hp so that would do me fine.  Thank you for the link

That is a VERY good site for finding out transmission info. Basically, Baumann's opinion is that you can build an AOD and get it fairly tough, but it's nowhere near even the stock capacity of a 4R70W, and it's more expensive. Finding a 302 bolt-pattern 4R70W is the trick though. I have a 1998 Mountaineer 5.0 with the 4R70W and love it...shifts great, and those internals are killer. If I ever wreck...you know where the trans is going... ;)

Check this site out. http://clickclickracing.com/forums/index.php These guys are running 10's with AOD's. Eric is the owner who has the car Rdrunner which runs 10's with an AOD. AOD's are really not junk you just have to know the in's and out's.

The AOD is basicly a non computer controlled 4R70W. Take the plantery out of the 4R70W and put it in the AOD,replace the frt 2 pc shaft with the C6 spline shaft and there is an intermidet shaft to be replaced. Get a good valve body and convetor. The AOD can hadle up to 900-1200 hp with the right parts.
My car has 450 lb ft of torq @ the rear tires and the AOD is great.
Cuts a 1.60 short time with a 3800 lb car.
If you put in a C4 you will miss that OD.
