Is there a difference in the sending units from a thunderbird to a mustang. My oil pressure gauge reads high almost all the time and it just doesnt seem like it is working properly.
Ford used a fake oil pressure sender back in the day (and still does). It is not really a sensor, it's a switch with a resistor. Under, say, 15PSI, the gauge will show low. Over 15PSI it will show midwaybin the gauge. This was an (extrememely dishonest) way of reducing uneccesary trips to the dealership (and warranty costs). Mustangs use the same gauge.
What I did to get around it is to use an aftermarket sender - AC Delco, P/N 01972321. It fluctuates with temp and RPM, so it seems to be working
was that swap fairly straite forward? i noticed a few gauges in all the 88s and 87s i drive being off and was wondering about how to fix it. expecialy on the turbo coupe with its insaine oil pressure. i still need to get a real gauge to check it before i "fix" it tho.
