-i just bought a '88 turbo coupe, auto. came from the back lot of a used car dealership. they said it ran when they traded for it about 1.5-2years ago. i can spray starting fluid in the air cleaner and the car will crank and run for a couple of seconds and go dead. i was not getting any fuel pressure at the rail, so i checked the inertia switch. looks like someony has already had this problem, because the wires were cut and twisted together on it. so the multirelay looks fairly new, i figure it might be ok (or not). so next i check for the pump. i drop the tank, it is about 1/3 full and nasty. pump looks like jello, so i dump the whole assy for another tank and pump assy. i know to work. get it in, add fuel, try it. no start. am i overlooking something??? the only other thing i can think of is clogged lines as i'm still not getting any fuel to the rail. any suggestions?????
Replace the Fuel Filter.
The entire fuel system could be filled with .
Replace the filter as mentioned. Also, do you have flow out of the line at the rail? Is the regulator toast/clogged? Try tapping on the injector boddies a couple times with a screwdriver or the like, they could be stuck.
Can you hear the pump run in the new tank???? Also you can check for voltage to the pump at the inertia sw with a test light. If its not there and the IRCM is new I'd be checking the fuse links that feed it.
Most definitely check that filter and make sure everything has power to it.
Pump relay?
if the fuel was gummy is it more then likley if everything else checks ok that the injectors may also be gummed up and the fuel filter and lines.
was doing fuel filter as i wrote the thread, sorry. also did'nt help.
oh, and the pump does run.
