I'm not real big on the FWD Cougars, but I imagine a 200-horse SVT Contour engine would be a bolt-in affair. The 3.0 Duratec might fit as well - same 200 horses as the SVT, but likely torquier due to its size (once again, I'm not sure of that tho...)

The SVT is to the new cougar 2.5 as the 5.0HO is to the fox platform 5.0SO.  Blocks are the same some other parts are not.  The Duratec fits and will bolt up to the stock trans.

dule hampster wheels? lol... if i were you, id look around for similar cars with eather the same engine, or same transmission and try to find something that is easy to bolt in or will work period. but im sure your going to have to costomize something. eather bell housing, or engine mounts. have you tryed looking for some of the front wheel drive cougar boards? or even car domain? i have a 99accent and when looking around one day found that they swap some kinda engine in their from sonatas or something... maybe their is a common swap for new cougars.
