I will have more information coming soon. Thanks!

splooch?
Anyway... I'm doubtful that I'll personally have a car there, but I will be there.
The car thing depends on how the sport takes the winter. It's in some seriously bad condition underneath.
The turbo coupe is getting stripped down over the winter and I will be finishing up the body work in time to paint it in the spring of 07 when I finish off my autobody course. I wouldn't count on seeing that car for at least 3 years though, too much experimental stuff going on.

Hey guys, being somewhat new here, I had seen some of you talking about cat jam. I just checked this out, and being in Youngstown, Ohio, well hell I gotta go to this. Youngstown looks to be 2, maybe 3 hours from here. So, can I get some details on it, i.e. the exact location, instructions on how to get there, etc? Or will I have to wait til later for that?

That's because this thread was set so that every post would be moderated, for some reason. So your posts were there but were waiting for mods approval before it got publicly displayed, same with like 9 oter posts in this thread. I don't know why.

The sport is rapidly degrading to say the least... And unfortunately the turbo coupe won't be done until 2007, but trust me it'll be worth the wait. I can gaurantee you at this point at least that you will have never seen another like it ;)
If I get enough time in on my bike I may ride that down for fun but that's only if I can get it highway ready. I may have to pile on some random excess weight to make a trip on the highway like that.

I am definately going to be there this year with one of my cars. I would love to bring the t-bird, but i don't know if the t-5 will be in by then. If not the t-bird, it will be the cougar..i think it could make it through a 6 hour, 400 or so mile trip.

There is always swapping going on. IF you got some stuff to throw in the backseat/trunk go for it. Someone will buy something.
I'd rather have a swap meet anyways.

Ditto, I'm really considering towing a very small u'haul trailer behind my car with parts that I want' to get rid of. So I'm taking requests!

Since it's a club meet, I dont see the problem why not?? Hell if the club can rip an engine out in a parkinglot of a red roof, what's a little selling going to hurt?
Title: Cat Jam 2006
Post by: EricCoolCats on January 29, 2006, 11:31:38 PM
Mmm....I'm going to have to say 'no' to the parts things, guys. Legal reasons...the park will kick us out for sure. You'd have to check with the hotel. Basically it's my name and reputation that's signed on the dotted line when we have CJ, and if someone does something that will jeopardize future shows, I'm not going to be a happy camper. If you have parts that someone is buying, small stuff, keeping it cool, that's alright. But putting parts down in a lot with price tags...not gonna happen.
Title: Cat Jam 2006
Post by: Cougarcruisin on January 29, 2006, 11:56:45 PM
Sorry Eric, I was thinking of small stuff anyways. Such as if someone has headlight covers to sell or something like that. Nothing like a yard sale type deal... Didnt mean to argue against you.

I plan on making it this year as I've got relative in Canton. But, I think we should set something like a limit up for parts and the like. Because if you say just the small stuff, and someone brings a trailer full of small stuff, I'm pretty sure that's what you'd want to avoid. I think it oughta be something like a "bag limit", similiar to the airport. Such as, "If it all fits in the trunk, your in the clear", except now it's a car trunk and not an overhead one. We have similiar rules at the Indy swap meets sometimes as guys like to bargain and sell in the parking lots without paying registration fees. Sometimes, you get an engine or 2, but thats usually on a per order type deal, and it was pre-arranged. I've seen this kind of stuff at cruise-ins all around here especially at old car shows with Freon, Track Bite, and that Zymos wax.

Everyone signs a paper that goes..... Eric has to cover himself. He is kind enough to make all of the arangements for this thing and he takes care of all of it... basically all you do is show up and have fun... Eric does a lot of work for this get together. I don't think you realize all the work that goes into CJ. And Eric doesn't keep any profits or anything for himself....
I think that signing a paper for him to keep himself covered is a small thing to ask.

It will be on the forthcoming online registration form, as well as a paper copy at the show for those that arrive late.
I'll be honest...it is all about covering my backside. I don't want it to scare people away. I just want everyone to officially state that they're at the show of their own free will, and that if something happens (God forbid), that they will be responsible, not me. Again, it's just like every other show I attend, except I left out all the nasty legalese. ;)

Ya the meet isn't all about cars. We often talk about everything about cars then end up talking about everything else in life, jobs, relationships, blah blah. Over the past 3 years of going to CJ it's really fun to see your friends again and get together and discuss what all took part in the past year. Plus I bet she'll enjoy you taking her out for dinner all the time. :) It'll feel like your treating her like a queen! hah

We even bring our kids... my daughter has been to CJ everytime we have... she absolutely loves it! Of course, she also has a few of the guys wrapped around her little finger.... but, I don't think they mind. LOL It is rather fun!
I do suggest that you bring some kind of lawn chairs, and a cooler with drinks in it for at the Chili's car show... we are there several hours and it's nice to be able to sit down for a big and have something to drink or snack on.

I know that I got tons and tons of to do from now until then.
Lots of time, and surely lots of money. What about 7.5 months away or something like that? I hope I can manage that. I hope to go to other shows this summer also. I would love to enter with everyone else at Ford Carlisle for the hell of it. I know it wont be as nice as the other cars but hey, it wont be the uglyest car there.
Btw, you guy's sigs and info are HUGE, you post alone takes up more then what my screen can handle.

Your's won't be the ugliest. I'm planning on going to carlisle this year too but there is no chance that I'm going to have the car repainted. So I'll probably patch the rust as best as possible and spray it to match as inexpensively as possible. Besides, it needs some interior work too so I'll probably have the ugliest Cougar there.:hick:
Getting closer to Cat Jam, I'm still planning to go. I have money thanks to my tax return, but now it depends on if the Cougar holds up.

Yes you did, you post w :p
I don't know who all will be going. I'm sure a thread for Carlisle will pop up eventually.
I took 3rd in the stock class in Carlisle in '04. It was basically by default since I was one of 3 cars in the stock class but it was still cool nonetheless.
It's awesome. Steve, if you enter, print out a form from their website and send them your entry fee. You'll get a thing in the mail that will have your tickets and whatnot. When you get there you go into a specific gate, park and complete your registration. They then direct you on where your spot is in the show field. Easy. Well, that's how it was in '04. Didn't get a chance to do it last year.
I've thought about entering the Fairlane too this year, but I doubt I'll get it anywhere near "show worthy".

im glad you mentioned that cougarcragar cause I was going to tear apart the brake system and forget about it I better start that this weekend before I forget. Im hoping the new pads will take care of it cause the old ones when I did manage to look at them were wearing way wrong!!! It looked like the bottom of the pads were wearing, and they were the only thing's touching the rotor. The pads looked like > that but not that much of an angle gotta double check that there sitting right. I kinda got away from adding more lights but I got over $5,000 in the engine and still not done. lol

hey qwikcat just a question.with all the cash u r sticking in to the cat why cant it be drivin to cj? seems a wast to stick all that money into a nice car like yours and not beable to drive it.i was so hopeing to hear that sweet exhaust too , dam. also what brand of strobes do u have.i was maybe thinking of getting some myself but not sure if it will happen this year but its an idea depending on the caust.
Title: Cat Jam 2006
Post by: qwikcat97 on February 23, 2006, 07:15:51 AM
ok sorry for taking this thread off subject first off. The strobes are made by sho-me I think I still got the guys info that I got mine from if you want it let me know cause I know he told me after I bought mine that they were switching to a better setup for the same price. The reason I may tow it there is cause I don't want to put the stress on the trans or rear end from driving at a constant speed for 4 hours. as long as I finish the car by then I will be there and im hoping to have everything done to it by then except for the nos and a retune.
oh yeah just a quick question I though CJ was the last full weekend of July? Howcome not the 28,29,30 of July?

Yeah I got it planned just right as long as nothing major happens I will have my car done the week before Cat Jam and I will end up hauling it incase I do have a problem to where I can't drive it. oh yeah I got me a new tat that most guys here will like. lol alright im out I probably wont be posting til Cat Jam get's closer!

In general it is still about Cat Jam.... just at our picnic I'll have to keep my eyes open. Never know who might be waiting for me behind a tree as I walk on the sidewalk to that outhouse/restroom that the park has.

Nope, I'll still be rocking the v6. It'll be my first time going. And I read earlier that the youngest guy was 19 or something. I'll be 17 and rocking the t-bird. May be the only award I can ever get.

I just booked at Red Roof Inn
60.99 / night x 12.5 tax
But the cost / night was great so it made up for the tax. Glad to be at Red Roof again anyways!!!!! I learned from my mistake of waiting until the last minute like last year and Microtel Inn. (Yes they dont call it micro for nothing) I'm 5'10 and my feet hung over the end of the bed. haha

I am going to be making the attempt this year. The car is much closer to being ready, or at least driveable. Since it's going to be running on MegaSquirt I want a good month of driving on it before I drive it a fair distance like that. Been making some good progress recently though.
Hopefully I'll look into a motel room later on this month. Want to wait a little bit before I reserve it just yet.

I'm still looking forward to it!
I'm SO going to be there...Haven't reserved a room yet, but I'll try to look into that soon.
The '87 has no changes since last year (Other than a couple thousand more miles, etc.)...so I'll bring Xena this time (the '97) for something a little different. She's got no mechanical problems to speak of, but does show her age with I guess normal wear & tear for her age. One bad spot is on the front bumper corner (passenger side) where I sed it up bad trying to menuever out from in front of a car that was blocking me in at my mom's house one day...rubbed up against a brick wall:bricks1: ...messed up the paint there...I used to keep a front end cover on it and it hid it well...but it has worn out so maybe I'll get a new one.
See ya!

Hey all...just a few quick updates about CJ06:
I did secure a company for some of the catering. We're going to figure out which will be home-cooked vs. catered in the next month or so. Obviously, the burgers and dogs will still be on the grill, but everything else is undecided as of now. This should help free up some people. Also, Brian and Ashleigh have volunteered for some desserts, as well as Karen and crew.
I do have a logo done and ready for shirt printing, but I'm sort of waiting for my T-shirt hook-up to get going on them. He is, how do you say, in transition right now. ;) Andrew has agreed to be the official CJ06 Shirt Seller Dudeâ„¢ once again.
Ric and Sam are going to help with the parking again this year. They have told me that a computerized numbering system is in order and they promised that no paper plates would be harmed. ;)
So far, no luck with getting someone from Angels for Animals to come out and speak to us. It was explained to me that everything there is done in a volunteer basis, so it may be difficult if not impossible for someone to do that. I'm going to make a few more calls there and see if we can't secure something (literature, videotape, etc.) about Angels that we can physically see at the picnic.
Registrations and pre-orders of merchanise have been going well. This was a good idea...we now have initial capital for some expenses.
Once again, if anyone has ideas for the Chinese auction, please post them here or e-mail me (ericATcoolcats.net). Karen has been bearing the brunt of the ideas and purchasing, even making some things by hand...we need to help her out.
I have confirmation that the Valley Cruzers will be doing the Chili's show yet again this year. So our Saturday night cruise is on, as usual. They're gonna a brick when they see our donation check to their club. ;)
K, that's all the updates I have right now. Thanks everyone!

What the hell is a "Chinese Auction"?
Here's how it works: a bunch of items are put on the tables, with a cup in front of each item. You buy tickets and put them in the cups that are in front of things you want. You can put as many tickets in as you like. So, say we have a nice jacket again...if you buy 10 tickets, you can put all 10 in the cup in front of the jacket...or just 5...or 1...or none. This way, everyone has a chance to win what they want, and they aren't stuck with something they didn't want if they do win it. It's a win-win deal.
Why it's Chinese, I don't know.

So I have a couple little suggestions that might also help, and anyone could shoot them down or agree with them. The first thing i'm thinking of is possibly making up name tags for people. Something along the lines of a persons real name with their forum (user) name below it. I think it would help alot with the akwardness of newbies meeting veterans (and I speak from personal experience on that one). Second, would it be possible to get some kind of map for getting around. Namely for getting from the picnic to the car show. Again from experience, when we left the park we got separated into smaller groups. This makes for an interesting trip when the leader of a mini pack doesn't have a clue where he's/she's going. Anywho, just a couple ideas that may or may not fly.

I will have maps printed and handed out to everyone...that was something that came up last year, it was a good point, and it's been in my mind ever since. That will get done.
Name tags...well...it's a good idea. CJ is getting rather large. However, I don't want to look like a bigger nerd than I already am. ;)

If there is any need to get them printed out let me know, i've got more than enough resources to do that. As for the creation end, I could possibly do that as well, but I have to admit, my artistic creativity when it comes to things like that is terribly lacking. Perhaps something basic that could be put in one of those plastic holders for the pre-registered folks, and the simple sticker written on with sharpie style for the others. I've got no clue as to the best way to go on this one, just throwing out a few hail-marys.

Point taken. :D I can't help it if I like yellow or the wing. I was only playing guys ;) I propably wouldn't wear the tag. Like Eric, I would feel a bit nerdy, but if you all want them, it really doesn't matter to me. since I can't remember everyones name, it would actualy be helpful to me anyway. THE flagship identity in punk history. Even if you're american based you have to realize that the shag pistols were just as big as the ramones. Just wanted to stop by and say I plan on being there Friday Morning The cougar should be up and running the engine is going back in next weekend then all I got left is some minor things and a tuneing session and should be all set. I still plan on hauling it down for the simple fact if something does go wrong with the engine I want to be able to get the car back home before I got to be somewhere saturday morning. Just a little precaution thing as I wont have alot of time to brake the engine in properly. Might do that down there though.lol

I know of one just south of Columbus, Oh, and I'm sure there are more. They are all over Cincinnati of course. The display for cincinnati does not seem very accurate, since I know of at least two, 1 east, and 1 north that do not show on the cincinnati map. Maybe this does not include franchises or something. I'm sure you will see one on the way. You may want to call and see too. Typing in a zip code works a bit better too by the way.

I'm out from CJ too now. Going to be a lame summer but I really believe it's for the best, for me and the car.
As of now it looks to be a year to two year project to accomplish these fetes that I thought up.
Pull out and rebuild the S.O. 302. Make her really run. Transmission has been rebuilt 6k ago so that's good. tbird Rear End Swap 5 Lug Conversion Brake Upgrades 17 Inch Wheels Black Interior Black Carpet Black Stang Seats Suspension Upgrades
It's just not economical and wise for me to drive around a beautiful car that has some minor detail work missing.Things like that just dont fly at shows. Puting miles on her at this time just doesn't make sense. So count me out from Carlisle and CJ but please guys give me a hand if any questions arise in the next few months with my new purchases and advice.
Good Luck to all and I really wish I could be apart of this great event. (Eric I hope to donate as soon as I get some money for the charity for the club). Can't wait to hear about all of it and many many pictures please!

Wow Steve. Looks like you have some major plans!
However, even though I respect your decision, are you sure you're making the right one? It seems like you aren't enjoying your "recreational" car, especially when it already looks so incredible. As you already know, Cat Jam's evolved into something where everyone is accepted, with or without a Cougar/Bird, in any condition. It just wouldn't be the same without people like Karen, Brian, Aaron, etc. This is coming from a guy with one of the ugliest Cougars around - it's about meeting everyone else, not judging each other's cars in terms of what's been done or upgraded. On top of that, your Cougar is one of the best looking ones in the community. I'm just lucky to own a somewhat driveable Cougar, and have bondocougar to help me out when i'm in a pinch!
It's hard to do everything I want to do to my own Cougar because I'm in school and don't work a 40-hour/week job. However, I'd gladly put off Cougar upgrades and spend a couple hundred of those dollars every summer to make it to CJ. IMO, it's a much better use of money. There will always be something else to buy for the car, but there's only 1 CJ a year.

No way man.... In order for me to financial be able to do this I can't drive the car (insurance, gas, registration, inspection, plates, maintance, etc)
In order to compete with the big boys at the shows I gotta do this. (And I want to smoke the hell out of this one kid in my town)
He drives a 2000 Eclipse that runs mid 14 seconds and he think he is the shiznit. His Dad drives a 89 Super Coupe and one night I told him if your dad races you it'll be a close race, and that i think the Ford will beat him. Well since that he has ran is mouth about Thunderbirds, Cougars, Fords, and me in general.
I want the engine to do something with. So it's time for me to get something done.

Title: Cat Jam 2006
Post by: jkirchman on May 05, 2006, 12:03:10 PM
So let me get this straight. It's more important for you to beat someone that is always going to think your car is a hunk of shiznit no matter what you do than to spend time with friends that appreciate what you have and also like you as a person and actually enjoy your company?
Wow. That defies logic. Not judging you or anything Steve but it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

No I just want more engine for myself. Knowing that I have an engine to back what I think will just be a bonus.
Some of the guys at CJ have H.O.'s or Supercharged or what not. 170hp is pretty py. I want more. Plus I want more of my car. Remember the only way I can improve my car now is by taking a year and working on it. I make near minimum wage working 40 hrs a week during break from semesters. By dropping money into insurance, gas, and all the other things it's taking away for my upgrades to the car.
My last post was kinda dumb. That's not the whole reasoning behind me doing this. I see what some of you guys have. Will's xr-7 from day one has been my role model. I love that car with a passion. HEll it's not even mine and I love it. Yah he is older then me and makes more $$ then me but I can respect all the effort that he has put into that car. Everything is detailed and worked on. Mine on the other hand has things that are taking away from it that needs attention.
1. Last year I managed to take one of most beautiful girl that I've ever met out to a nice dinner and a movie. It's pretty embarrasing pulling into the parking place, popping the hood, and unhooking your battery cable because of a electrical draw. And doing this 3 or 4 times a night while your with her because of I'm afraid that the battery will die and leave us stranded. (kind of a pride thing) 2. My Dash beeps every 30 seconds because of something wrong with it? Annoys everyone else. I got used to it and dont even hear it anymore. 3. My engine leaks about a quart a week due to a bad rear main seal on the engine. Parents are upset with the puddle of oil in the garage. 4. My rear suspension is shot from carrying that large subwoofer around. Every bump I hit it clunks like amother. 5. I can barely spin tire with a car that sounds macho. 6. I get 15 mpg @ 170hp whereas I would rather get 15mpg @ 250hp
I appologize for sidetracking this thread but you know if I could I would be driving it. But if I fix it up now then by next year I'll have one hellava car.

it's nice to see the "family" aspect of catjam..... you all seem to really care about your cars and most importantly each other..... being a newbie this year, i am now even more jazzed about driving 700 miles up to ohio in a cougar with rust on the doors and the origional 120hp engine with NO mods getting 14 miles to the gallon and probably nearly maxing out a credit card to do it..... and why??? because just like the prom thread, it's all about the memories and going to something that may only last for a short time, but that i might be able to gain glorious memories that will last me the rest of my life..... i think that's worth spending about $800 for only a weekends worth of fun (danm, i paid that much for the cat :))........ trust me, i have 3 kids, a mortgage, goto school full time (summer too) and work for $7.50 an hour too, so i'm in the same boat as you Cougarcruisin..... but it's nice to see that our decision to try to wedge ourselves into this community and go into some debt to explore a passion that we can't quite yet afford was a good decision..... i'm glad you created catjam eric, and i'm so looking forward to meeting all of you and soaking up everyones fox body knowlege..... i may only have an average car at catjam (and it's the wifes to boot), but it doesn't really matter to me because there seem to be such great people here who don't care about the quality of your car (or even if you drive a fox body anyway), it's the love for the car that bonds everyone..... july is just too far away..... i'm starting to count down the days!
where the hell is that teary-eyed emoticon anyway :)

Even if I didn't have Eric's beater to drive around, I still would've been glad I went. If you don't decide to go, I guess that gives you more time to work on your car and I can't really be mad about it. It's not like it's a 20 minute trip for you, as it is for me. Hey is this too wierd? I was playing around in the kitchen last night and tried out some cougar sugar cookies. I thought the blue was a little strange looking.:screwy: I think I'm gonna pursue some other, non-edible ideas, but these were a tasty experiement.
I love it!!!!

There's been e-mailing going back and forth between some of the MD guys. There will definitely be a good number of us going, but I am unsure as to what route they are planning to take this time around. We might be heading through WVa?

Was just checking the low-down on this year's CJ and finally found my way here. For those who don't know me, I'm Kevin from Findlay, Ohio and CJ05 was my first event. I have a '95 XR7 that's pretty much stock in the body and engine, but I have a few visual mods goin on. The main one, for me, is the ICELED UFO underbody light kit (that will hopefully be added onto before CJ06 if the shipment makes it here on time). Other things include color changing painted dash/console, racing style, lighted seat covers, and a PS2 running to two visor monitors.
I really enjoyed myself last year and will definately be at this year's!! Dennis, sorry to hear you won't be making it, and Steve, I'm glad to hear you will be.....finally. :D You know how much I lovvvvve your Cat!
Looking forward to seeing those of you who I met last year again, and meeting the ones I didn't for the first time.
If anyone coming from the West or North would be interested, RT224 that goes into Boardman/Ytown comes right through Findlay and if anyone wants a more scenic and more importantly FREE way to get there, maybe we can meet and caravan over on 224. It will be slower, but it's a straight shot and there's no tolls. Just a thought.

Title: Hotels
Post by: JadeCat95 on June 07, 2006, 10:11:41 AM
Ok, I've done some more checking on hotels; Except for Microtel, all the hotels in the immediate area of RRI are booked (note: this is for Friday check-in and Sunday check-out, if you're only staying Friday night, might be different). I stayed at Microtel last year, not again. The closest one I found was a Days Inn that is almost exactly 3.5 miles away, but along two straight-shot roads (McClurg Rd(>east) & South Ave(^north)) to get to RRI. The rooms are $60/night (1 double bed) or $85/night (2 doubles), but if you want to take the risk, they have a special rate of $51/night (1 double) or $72.25 (2 doubles), but it's prepaid, and you can't cancel or modify it. I pretty sure this is where I'll be staying. Here's the link: http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/check_avail (http://"http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/check_avail")

I think in '04, I stayed in a Fairfield Inn. It was something like 5-10 miles away or something. Not too bad and the hotel was nice. I might end up booking there again.
If I don't have the cat back together, I might drive my Fairlane. Iff'n I can get the 42 year old beast tagged and whatnot. She's a lot closer to running condition than the cat so I'll probably get her going first.

hey, this is our first CJ, so I was just wondering... has there been a designated photo op area? I was thinking how cool it would be if someone staked out an area (kinda like the Kodak picture spots at Disney) that would be a great photo-op area for individual pix of our cats/birds. Maybe even two, one that would be simple & classy, the other could be fun & festive with maybe a CatJam 06 sign for members to pose with their rides?
(sorry to be so girly about it, but I would love to get some great pix of my cat)

Well, for one, it's not called MICROtel for nothing! LOL But last year the room they gave us had a about 20 colonies of ants prancing around in the window seat and down to the floor. We complained and got an "upgraded" room.....that means the room we got looked EXACTLY the same except that it had one of those really small apartment fridges in it. So, yeah, I won't be going back there, even though it's really close to RRI.

Yah Microtel was decent. Stayed there last year. Parking was ok and room was "micro" but was good enough to sleep a good nights rest. Bed's were alittle smaller as my feet overhanged the end of the bed (im 5'10"). But heck for I think like 49.99 i paid for a night it was a great deal.

Whoo-Hoo! I get to sleep on the floor!
I "procrastinated" in reserving my room this year - it was always on my list of things to do, but I have a LOT of things on that particular list at any given time...
This is probably a good thing when I think about it... [LIST=1]
I've spent big bucks on my own room the past 2 yrs, and splitting the room costs this year will help out with all that gas I have to buy to get there.
I don't end up spending very much time in the room anyway...everyone's out in the parking lot having fun.
So anyway, thanks to Andrew and Claude! (and yes, I will buy some of the beer.)

Post by: LittleAngel1198 on June 09, 2006, 08:18:33 PM
I'm sure Eric will get to it pretty soon....
I can tell you this: Usually, it goes:
Friday night--hang out at the hotel.
Saturday morning-- around 10, Eric arrives at the hotel, and we all caravan to the park. Have the picnic, hang out, etc. Saturday evening--after the picnic we go o Chili's for the car show and hang out till it's over, then go to a restaurant.
Sunday--hang out in the a.m. for a bit, then head out to Summit Racing to look around, go have lunch. Others head home at this time, if they don't go to Summit. After Summit, everyone heads home.
Some advice for the Car Show at Chili's.... bring a cooler with pop or water, etc in it.... and some stuff to munch on. It gets oveer around 9 p.m., so we are there for about 4 hours or so. Also bring folding chairs, as it gets tiring standing all that time.
There are drinks available for about $1.00 a can for pop, or water. Also of course, Chili's is there and there is a Mc Donald's up the road. Also, not far from there is Gorant's chocolates (OMG!! This place has such good chocolate! I make a yearly run when I'm there! LOL)
**Also, remember Saturday at the picnic we will have the Chinese Auction tickets available for sale, and Eric will (probably)have t-shirts and window decals there too. **
Hope this helps

I'm still here. :)
Some things are still pending so no itinerary yet. I'll have more info in the next few weeks. Those that have pre-registered will get an e-mail with the details when they're available.
One thing I did find out is that the Chili's show is now 5-8pm, not 6-9pm as in years past. So that means we'll be leaving the park an hour earlier. Not really that big of a deal, but we'll have to hustle to get the food on, get the Chinese auction done, and everything cleaned up before we caravan over to Chili's.

yellow86cougar--I just checked out your route, and taking I76 to I80 to I680 is waaaay outta your way. Take I71 to I76 east. At that point, I76 and SR224 run together and then SR224 runs out of Akron and runs directly into Boardman and the RRI is like 2 blocks off that. Sure it won't be Interstates, but it's not that bad. And there are a couple of us that are talking about meeting in Akron too.

I just check RRI again. Good news! There are TWO 2-night rooms now available. One is 2 full beds non-smoking and the other is Business King Bed smoking. There was also 7 one-night rooms available: BBB 2 FULL BEDS SMOKING, SMALLER ROOM, 25" TV STANDARD 2 FULL BEDS NON-SMOKING, 25"TV STANDARD 2 FULL BEDS SMOKING, 25" TV ACCESSIBLE 2 FULL BEDS SMOKING, 25" TV BUSINESS KING BED NON-SMOKING, DESK, 25" TV BUSINESS KING BED SMOKING, 25" TV, DESK ACCESSIBLE BUSINESS KING BED NON-SMOKING, DESK
I went ahead and booked for one night here because I'm not sure what's going on for me on Sunday yet. I figure if I decide to stay for Sunday, I'll just see if one opened up at RRI, or check other motels. I'm sure one will be open at Microtel, if nothing else. Now I have to go cancel my room at Days Inn. :D

Eric, I was looking at dates for a possible dragway event on sunday. The dates on your website are incorrect. Friday is the 21st and sunday is the 23rd. I just left you a voicemail so I get your attention right away, hoping this doesnt screw with anyone's hotel planning.
Back to my dragway plans. I looks like there are 2 possible options for sunday. 1st would be the closer QuakerCity Raceway which is only open for track rental on sundays. I could check on more details on this one but im pretty sure It would be something in the neighborhood of 20 car minimum @ $20 a car, paid 2 weeks in advance which I doubt would fly. 2nd option would be for those interested to head north a bit to Thopson Raceway Park. They have test and tune on sunday with bracket racing later on. Gates open at 9am, brackets wouldnt start untill 2pm. with the park closing @ 5pm. $10 for adults, only $3 for kids and only $15 a car for racers. This trip would be little over an hour from the hotel.

I have a lot to do before im strip ready right now, im not sure she'd survive a trip down the strip. I have severe bushing damage, still sitting on winter tires, quirky shocks and a good number of tuning issues to resolve. Plus I think the engine is starting to go so all the work will still leave me in the high 14's

Whoops, my bad...it's fixed. I just reused last year's page so those were the old dates in there. I think everyone's hotel plans were already made before the page got posted on Monday, so hopefully there's no harm done. Thanks for letting me know Nick.
As for the drag racing thing...it's not my bag, baby. Besides, I am going to be too burned out on Sunday to do anything. Y'all would be on your own for that. One thing I do know with groups trying to get the track is that you have to have an insurance policy in place for the group...and we don't. So you'd have to run as individuals. Thompson would probably be the better of the two in that respect. The local Mustang club rents Quaker City once a year and they have no problems finding 20 cars. I think we would, honestly. First and foremost, you'd have to bring a helmet which I don't think too many people would just have laying around, or buy new for just one event. Plus, not too many people want to drive long hours to get to Ohio, just to run the risk of breaking something before they go home. At least, that's the excuse that NY Nick gives me. ;) In the end it's all a lot of money involved to race a car and that would probably deter most everyone. But if a group wants to go race, I think that's cool and would give you my blessing on it. Like I said, it's just not my thing. I have trouble enough just keeping the car streetable and driving in good condition!

Hey, just wondering what "Cat Jam" is all about...I checked out the web page already. Sounds like it caters more to Cougars and I have an 87 Tbird, just curious as to how many Tbirds usually attend this show and whether I should make the trip from Ontario, Canada if there is a risk of being dissappointed in the show. Not that I don't like Cougars, but I more interested in the Tbirds and that is a long way for me to go...Thanks a lot for any information you can give me :)

Well...Royce is driving in from Houston...and this year, he probably won't have the longest drive for a change. So that should tell you something right there. It could be pouring rain all weekend and I seriously doubt you would be the least bit disappointed. The show is open to ALL 1983-up Cougars and T-Birds regardless of condition, and that also includes the 1999-2002 FWD Cougars and the 2002-2005 retro T-Birds. My goal is for our show to be the model of tolerance, the epitome of fairness for all cars that attend. Even Mustangs, Claude. ;) You are certainly welcome, with open arms all the way.

BlondeThunder.. I've been coming from Ontario since the very first Cat Jam and I've never found it to be a waste of time. It's not only about the cars you drive but it's the friendships you build with people who have the similar interests. Cat Jam isn't all about checkin' out everyone's cars but also about meeting the people who you share conversations online and putting a face to the name.

50 cars?, and most likely 70 plus people. Wow, this really is growing, and fast. That means, out of 60 cars, between me and Carl, we will be bringing 10% of the cars there if I brought all three. I'm still not 100% sure I will be bringing the black one again. I am 90% sure the silver 86' Turbo won't be able to come. I'ts not ready for that long of a drive yet, and gas for two cars isn't cheap. When you see what looks like the Sun comming down the road, that will be me and my sweet southern woman in......the yellow 86'. FINALY!!!

Title: Let's have fun working on my car!
Post by: Royce 67/87/97 on July 11, 2006, 12:51:07 AM
Hey - who wants to have fun helping me work on my car this year at Cat Jam?
You know (assuming no one is swapping an engine or anything crazy like that) we will all need something to entertain ourselves during some of the "down-time" in the Red Roof parking lot. Here are some suggestions:
putting on a "new" set of horns (mine sound sick & wimpy)
taking off my broken rattley header panel bracket and putting on a good one
showing me how to make my heat shields on my cat. coverter stop rattleing so HORRIBLY LOUD
...and here are some of my most desired fixes - all to the driver's seat (all electrically related I guess...and I do not understand electrical much beyond a flashlight!):
figure out why it sometimes will not move forward/backward, then sometimes will
figure out why the memory seat function does not work anymore
figure out why the seat heater does not warm up anymore (still works on the passnger side)
Oh, and there's always the cruise control that has not worked in about...I don't know how many years. I have a sparecruise control module/octopus-looking thing with cable from a donor '87 (ebay auction)...I'll bring it with me.
I know it probably does not sound like it, but I actually do enjoy working on my car myself...but my skills (esp. in diagnosing) are not much. If I know for sure what part is broke, I change it!:hick:
It does not really matter to me if any of this gets looked at during the 'Jam, but if anyone else attending has some insights to any of these issues, your input/advice would be greatly appreciated!
I look forward to seeing everyone soon!
-Royce

Yes another year and I'll be ready. Things just aren't going as planned. I could see it coming about 2 months ago. Projects and their funding wasn't matching up to what I'm bringing in. car payments and rising cell phone bills (and getting pulled over) so insurance payments too. Blah. As you all might have guessed the body kit is still lying in the garage. No money to get it put on. College is killing my bank and now with the saab giving me troubles it seems i'm in a rut. Guys next year will be my year to shine. I'll get all the kinks and bottlenecks figured out by then and she'll be in her prime. Good luck to all and may we have no accidents on the trips to and from.
Wish everyone a swell time and am looking forward to seeing the pictures.

That's a bummer, Steve. Sorry to hear that. Better check into another plan for your phone though...sheesh, those bills will get the best of ya really quickly. Save while you're still young!
So, uh, why don't you and your dad just cruise down for the day in another car? We'd still love to see you guys. And you're so close, it's almost a shame.

Looks like my plans are going to fail me as well. The car is still w/o a cam and even if I get it together this weekend, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel with a 5+ hour drive on it as the tune is just still not right.
Also, I've had some family shiznit pop up that I may have to deal with that weekend.

Dang, it looks like there's a few folks on here having trouble making it to Cat Jam this year. I'm doing everything in my power to make it, but there seems to be one thing after another that's trying to be keeping me from at least bringing the Cougar. One thing, the seats are still not finished, and this is two weeks after he promised he'd have 'em finished.
I also have a lot of unfinished things to do under the hood -- change the oil, tune up, new alternator, etc. More outside too -- buffing, wax, brakes (yes, I'm still having trouble), I also have my taillights in millions of peices trying to do some customizing to 'em. But, my vacation starts next Wednesday, so I'll have two good days to get things finished, that's if the seats are finished. Everyone, cross your fingers for me!

Even if you can't get the whole interior done, all you need is a driver's seat!

Alright, now I don't feel so bad about the possibility of not making it.
The '86 needs a bit of work just to pass inspection. I technically have 5 days to do that before I'd have to leave. Plus I have some cosmetic issues I want to work out before I have it out in public. Even though that seems to be plenty of time I just don't see it happening. Lack of funding isn't helping...why did I buy this car in the first place? Nevermind.
The '88 is the devil in disguise. It has been running great. I have yet to take it out on the road but it starts up fine and I can move it around with no problems at all. I don't think I want to chance driving that car. Something about breaking down heading out or coming back just doesn't interest me. I'm telling you it is the devil.
So this leaves me with the Tib. 35-40 mpg highway with the AC blasting full tilt is quite inviting. However, that money I'd spend on gas, food, the hotel and so on is money that I could put into the '86.
I don't know, it's up in the air for me. I have a feeling it will be next thursday before I figure it out. :(

Not really, this happens every year. 50 people say they will make it and then every year 2 weeks before the meet come the excuses. IMO the way they always say they wont make it sounds more like they are talking themselves out of it with excuses so they dont feel bad...But its cool, do what ya gotta do...I aint mad at ya, I just wish one year everyone that says they were gonna show would actually show. It would double the size in one year, and everyone would have such a good time that I could only hope it doubles every year. Would be nice to 10 years down the road turn into a Nation Wide car show that people drives thousands of miles for to attend like our fellow mustangs, camaros, etc...

I agree that most people decide they can't make it just before the meet and that's how it should be. Things come up and that is more than understandable. Hell, I wanted to take the Cougar to Carlisle but it gave me a fit 3 days before the show. If I hadn't had already paid for my admission, I probably wouldn't have even gone.
I don't think anyone is trying to talk themselves out of going or making up silly excuses though.
Most of us have been there before and had a good time so why would we say we are coming and then back out because 'we don't want to go'. That doesn't make sense. I want to go in the worst way but if the money isn't there, it's not going to happen. I have a room reserved (not paid for yet) and I haven't paid my registration yet. Unfortunately, I'm on a very tight budget and I won't know for sure if I can make it until next week.:disappoin

I suppose it depends if people will be out in the parking lot having fun on Friday night. I'm weary of leaving my car in Pittsburgh on Friday night, as it will be full of valuable parts... including an original FMS spoiler that no longer belongs to me.

Hopefully we will get to see it next year. As far as I know, you have the only street fox car with a shaker. Enjoy your car. One great thing about allot of the cars, is how unique allot of them have become, and still retain the original look of the car. Propably a smart thing not trying to push it to get it ready. Be safe.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to going. I never see any other half decent thunderbirds around here (except my cousin's, his is a custom turbo coupe painted grabber blue/maverick blue with a mach one hood) and I have a hard time getting it in big shows because it's not old enough. I will definately try to make it down for next year and hopefully by then it will have a new motor too, cuz that's the plan for over the winter.
If there are any other "Thunderbird related" shows coming up though, I would love to know when and where and maybe I could make it to one of those.
Hope everyone has a good time and I will definately be waiting for pictures!

In case you didn't see it, the Sat. night restaurant has changed. We'll now be going to Buffalo Wild Wings in the Southern Park Mall, around the corner from JC Penney's.
Also, it looks like the weather is going to hold out for us. As of now (Wed. 7/19) the forecast is for 80's and lower humidity. CJ luck strikes again. ;)
I've put the restaurant info and weather radar screen on the opening page of the CJ section: http://www.catjam.net

After getting all the funding lined up and the car's interior and exterior shined up I decided to replace the thermostat today because of it's overheating problems. Well of course nothing can be easy and I busted the head off of the lower bolt on the thermostat housing. My Father and I worked on it all day today and spent lots of $$ in the attempt to break it free. Nothing we can do other then to rip parts of the engine off to get to it (which takes time). At 610pm tonight I threw the towel in after messing with it all day. Really sucks that I filled the tank up, paid my registration fees, found a hotel yesterday,t shirt fees, got it inspected yesterday, donations, and still can't attend. I'm more pissed then anything right now. To come so close and have something that should have taken 30 minutes to cause me to the cancel the entire trip.
Now I'm going back to my room to cry. :(

Yes it does...but things happen every year at the last minute with some people, and they're unavoidable, so we just have to roll on with it. I feel bad for the people that plan their whole year and/or summer vacation around this show and then have the rug pulled out from under their feet at the last minute. It's just terrible.

There's a little caravan of sorts to go between the park, and chilis, and the restaurant for dinner, right? Since I sure as hell don't know where anything is up there...
There sure will be. Find the Cats and Birds and follow, and you'll be just fine. You can download the maps to get from one location to another here: http://www.coolcats.net/catjam/localmap.html

Sorry to hear about that Fred.
My family stuff, while not as drastic, is still the primary reason for me not making it now that the car is about 85-90% sorted.
I think this is the last year I can say "Maybe next year" :P
Have fun folks!

Be prepared to answer some questions as I am now going to rebuild the 5.0. Next year: New Engine Bodykit WILL BE on. Hope no one minds me showing up in an import, ha. I'm going to have fun tho!!! :)

I don't know how many "jammers" are still around, but it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate!
I just hope it ends up being nice...but the youngstown forecast says up to a quarter inch of rain is expected for tomorrow :(

Well, we had some off and on rain this afternoon but otherwise, things were hot and humid. I think the cold front went through...tonight is was noticeably less humid and cooler. Things look good for Saturday. I counted ~22 cars tonight at the hotel, many more expected for the picinic. I'm happy! More updates when possible...

Yup, even with the rain we did have, it was well worth the trip to get advice from all the Cougar mega guru's  as well as see all the things that have been done to the cars ;) !!
The picnic shelter house really made the day, otherwise it would have been sort of wet just hanging out. The day cycled thru "now its getting brighter rain must be gone" to "its getting darker again with more rain.." teasing the day.

Nick and I made it back with no problems in the ranchero, then we took off the cap and gave it a bath. Seeing as it was dark by then I'll get pics tomorrow or something.
When we got the doors to Rick's we took a look at his XR7 and got it running right again. Electrical gremlins (a pin for the iac came loose) so a nice easy fix there.
It was good seeing everyone as usual :D

OK, I guess this would be the "official" overview of Cat Jam 2006 from my POV...
First of all, it rained off and on all day Saturday and I think that had an effect on the overall cars. On Thursday night I got a few late registrations from local people but only one or two actually showed up. Hell, the convertible was at home most of the weekend anyway--I can truly understand that reasoning. Anyhow, I think we figured somewhere around 30 cars throughout the weekend...not bad for having that kind of rain.
Money-wise, we were able to raise $250 for Angels for Animals. I am taking care of their check this week. Also, I presented the president of the Valley Cruzers Car Club (host club for the rained-out Chili's show) with $250 cash on our behalf to donate to Tod Children's Hospital, and I also wrote a check on our behalf to the club itself for $100 because they're stand-up guys. We truly have a welcome home whenever they hold a show. So, overall, I think $600 raised during a rainy weekend is very good. Everyone was generous, as usual...it never stops amazing me how, even with gas prices so high and all the other expenses that a vacation entails, people keep thinking of others with their donations. That is truly a testament to the kind of people we have at our event and I'm proud of every single soul.
Once again we had great help from a LOT of people (Karen & Roger, Ric & Sam, Will, Andrew, the BondoCougars LOL, Jeff & Rose, JohnnyCougar, my friends and family, and others whom I cannot foggily recall at the moment). Couldn't have done it without your help and support. For the first time in 5 years I actually felt a bit more relaxed and comfortable with everyone else in control. It's a great feeling. Again, that's a wonderful testament to the people involved with these cars.
Things that stand out to me about CJ06...
- Jessie's absolutely stunning '95 lowrider-style Cougar. Wow. Eric was impressed! And not only with the car, but how down-to-earth Jessie and Debbie are. What truly incredible people. - Derik's upgraded interior, finished just in time (barely!) for the trip. You thought that Radar Blue exterior was breathtaking...what a complement on the inside. Ouch! It's that hot! - Brian finally getting a working rear end in his '85 T-Bird. All I can say is...it's about time, you slacker! - Shannon's son. Can we bottle up that energy and sell it, please?! When a little boy flat-out says, "I'm hyper!", you gotta love it. ;) - Watching Crystal eat from a box of Munchkins from Dunkin' Donuts near her new (huge) Ranchero. There is something just so ironic about that: (http://www.coolcats.net/ximages/munchkins.jpg) - The constant updates about when (and whether) Alex was showing up. He has an incredible story to tell so he can do that himself. But in the end he did show up at the hotel about 2AM early Sunday morning, intact, with the new vehicle, safe and sound. - The diversity of all the gifts we had for the Chinese auction and the door prizes. Those that donated got very creative this year. I like that. Very, VERY nice stuff, guys. And Karen and Roger did a spectacular job buying the Chinese auction gifts too. We're already working on topping this for next year. - The taste of that first 24-oz Coors Light at Jillian's. Mmmm mmmm, papa needed that bad boy in the worst way. - The fact that we can all get together every year, have a great time, and still not get the cops called on us (yet LOL). I'm glad that we're a generally well-behaved group. That reflects upon me, ultimately, so I'm pretty happy with that. (We can definitely do without the burnouts/tire peeling/almost loss of control on wet pavement aspect, though).
Just FYI, there is about $700-800 in the pot to help start next year's show. All forthcoming T-shirt and CJ06 CD sales will add to that total. I will call next week to get the same pavilion next year, and when we do I will post the official CJ07 dates.
Once again...thank you everyone! I hope you had a good time this weekend and that you'll come back again.

Oh! and the fact that I did make it while Cat Jam was still happening means I have a perfect attendance! 5 for 5, how many of ya'll can say that? :flip:

Forgot to mention I made it back to Dubois,Pa with no problems but last night when I was taking the girl home from the movies I came upon a car accident that forced me to wait 30 minutes. So since of the wait I shut the car off to save gas. Well when traffic started moving the car wouldn't start. It was cranking over, start, then die. WTF. Battery was fine, but wouldn't catch and fire. It'd start then instantly die. So I pushed the car out in the field and walked her a mile to her house.
I went back this morning to do one last try before I called the tow truck and it fired right up. No problems. I drove it back to my house (15 miles away) ran fine, no problems at all. Now I just tried to go outside and it's doing the same thing. Starting, then dieing.
So a long story short I'm glad I made it back to dubois that day when it started to give me these problems. But I'm scared to death that I may have something costly in the makings ? Wow I think I lost both my cars in 3 days. I guess u can say I'm on a roll. Guess it's time to pull the bike out again.
btw CJ was fun and glad everyone made it home :)

Well, 3 years in the making and I finally made it to my 1st CatJam! Or should I say, 2 kids later. :D I originally planned on bringing my whole crew out, but with gas prices creeping up, I decided to only take the Cat.
Finally, to actually put a face to the name (or screen name). It was great to finally meet everyone. Talk about one BIG family. Like everyone says, Eric does one great job. A big thank you to your parents from my wife. She enjoyed the vittles. Most didn't see her at all except when we arrived and when we left. She had a good time also. TIME ALONE WITH NO NOISE!!
Next year may be a little harder to get to. My company is moving us to New Mexico. So either my older son and I will make the trek with the Cat or the whole family will come but in the 15 passenger van (yes all the way from Afghanistan). So Royce, maybe next year, you won't be alone on the highways.:) That is unless BaXo decides to buy another car from Arizona again. :giggle:
The trip back was only 4 hours compared to the 6 it took to get there. Didn't see you anywhere Will, maybe you pulled off and we missed you.
So until next year!!!

Well, this was my first and I'm glad I actually made it. I got some bunk directions to Youngstown from Canton so an hour drive took closer to 5 on Friday night. I got stopped by a cop in Mill Creek Park after dusk cause I guess it closes at dusk. So, I went back to Canton and made the trek the next day. I think I made it there at 3:30 or so, right before the cruise. I had a great time at Jillians and I think I'll make it again next year, cept this time I'll bring the thunderturd.

Post by: Royce 67/87/97 on July 25, 2006, 02:59:35 PM
Well, I've made it home!
Some trip stats for this year, thanks to the trip-minder:
3,002.2 miles
average speed of 61.4 m.p.h.
average economy of 24.5 m.p.g.
This is for the whole journey, from my driveway and back.
Thankfully I had virtually no problems on the road, mechanically speaking. Roxanne just "purred" along. (It's not her fault when her driver occasionally misses the exits he's supposed to take...:D ).
I didn't push it too hard on the way home - stopped Sunday night around Louisville, and Monday night in Baton Rouge, Louisianna. (Monday night was supposed to be my "free" night on the road...but none of my Louisianna kenfolk ever answered their phones when I called! Oh, well...one more night at a Red Roof Inn means one more night closer to earning that free night's room for Cat Jam '07!)
One little gremlin (to add to my ever-growing list): my doors have ceased to automatically lock themselves when putting the car into gear. They were working up till some time on the road Sunday...I was driving along and I noticed that my doors were unlocked, which just isn't ever the case...oh, well.
Anyway, I had an absolutley terrific time as usual, and I am planning on seeing everyone again next year! I will try to have Roxanne sparkling as much as she possibly can, with the help of all those goodies I won in the door prize drawing (thanks again Ric!)

I made it home 12:30 am Monday morning after fighting construction and (as the truckers put it) 175,000 rednecks leaving the Pocono Raceway.
I just washed off all that wonderful PA dirt of my car, and it seems that one of those wonderful PA rocks chipped my 7 month old windshield. Cold water hit it and BAM! I guess I will be putting another Cool Cats sticker on the new windshield (the one thats on there is less than a week old).
Oh, and my adventures with Will behind the mall blew my already dying power steering pump.
Oh, and that missing front right lugnut that I noticed Saturday night, and replaced Sunday morning. And the second missing front right lugnut I noticed Monday morning.
But other than all that, it was loads of fun!

2nd Rule travel in #'s is a good thing. When you stop for gas and fire shouts out of your alt have Washer Solvent close to put the fire out.

Here is a pic for rule#1 the pic is of the side of my trailer were the spare used to mount. We were travling down Instate 76 in the middle lane running around 70 MPH. The spare and mount came OFF landed in the front of a late model Chevy P/U and bonce over topof the truck. Landed in the middle of the HWY and nobody ran over it. LUCKY LUCKY.
RUle # 2 can be exsplained by that person it effected.

Had to add another post to tell everyone they made a VERY good impression on my nephew. He's 15 and has had his eye on getting a old Mustang to fix up for his first car. After going to his first CJ, and being so impressed with the friendliness of y'all, he now has his eyes set on a Cougar for his first so he can take it to CJ! ;) He has already asked to join me at CJ07 (if he doesn't have his own yet, that is). All he talked about for two days (other than the "awesome" cars) was how nice and friendly everyone was. I already knew this, but thanks for making such a great impression on him.
