Title: 3.8 dual exhaust

I know this subject has been beat to death, but I just finished my dual set up. NOT for the faint of heart or someone not owning a torch. Used summits universal fox body set up. sounds tough with their lers. Still gotta tie up a few loose ends but nearly finished with a weeks worth of wrenching (not just on exhaust, did intake, super cleaned injectors and spacer plate etc). Should be test driving around noon tomarow. :D

well, the summit stuff's fit is never very good as it is, their catback sucks for the stangs, and things like headers are robbed designs, i believe a lot of their stuff is flowtech stuff

tbird232 is right on the money about summits fit. there system took some rather heavy modification to fit and the pipes running from the down tubes to the lers were 2 feet short. If anyone wants to attemt this, first thing you do is buy a small Mapp gas torch and a sawz all with a 10 inch metal blade. If you want details on the removal or install let me know. BTW if I cap the vacume line running from the mapp sensor to the top of the air cleaner will I screw anything up? I bought a nice edalbrock air cleaner and hope its not in vane.

no he doesnt

the line that runs to the top of your air cleaner is for the heat riser, that allows warm air into your engine for warm up

i took mine off and capped the line years ago

Yes, but did it add power you can actually feel?  I have an 83 cougar with an anemic 3.8, really needs some power.

I bought the cheapest summit brand H-pipe and it fit like a dream. Installed it all by myself, even.

put dual 2.25" exhaust on it, with cats and some superturbo lers, and youll feel a gain

you just wont make much power no matter what you do

i think the size of the pipe depends on how Strong the motor is . if you have a fresh motor then 2.25 will be good . if you keep the cats close to the headers/manifolds creates back pressure . but if you have an old washed out motor stick to single bc you will only hurt the bottom end performance with dual.and sound like a ricer doing it with the big pipe and no power to crack open the s properly.

2.25 pipes with the stock exhaust manifolds some good lers and high flow cats will net you a noticeable difference.  It's what I did on my old V6.

sorry about not being around for a while, school kept me kind of busy.  LJS30, I noticed a big improvement in power from leaving a light to passing on the E-Way. I do have a newer motor with less than 25k on it.  Of coarse by big improvement I mean its not quite the slug it was, but a v6 with 2.73 gears can only do so much.

Guys I have and 88 cat with 3.8 and im planning on running dual, im planning on changing the manifold to 95 mustang headers, will this be hard to change, I know I need and H from a 5.0 mustang with the tranny dual crossmember and what else do I need, what lers do you reccomend

I am installing 84-87 heads onto my '83..I believe adding a point of compression (the 82-83 heads have large chambers...)...I will post results afterward...

the header swap is a pain in the ass, not becuase the headers dont come off easy, or anything like that, but the engine bay is so cramped on those cars

as for lers, i recomend the Hooker Aero Chambers, or something like super turbos

honestly, these 3.8L cars dont sound good with the "high performance" exhaust, like the flowmaster 40's, mac flowpaths, or anything like that

I had a set of 2.25 custom made for $320 and there straight to the lers" 2 california turbo's" And i felt it gain. Get up and go a little ya know? And they sound bad ass when one of those rice rockets revs around me and i have to put him down....

Will the Flowtech Raptor Turbo Performance ler Hooker 2.25 works fine with a 88 v6

Sounds like overall it would be a good modification to make.  My big thing is wasting money, so that's why I'm so skeptical about even trying to get some performance out of my 3.8.

My Thunderbird came with 3.27 gears.  I'm running FMS 3.73's now. 

With my motor rebuild, my duals sound great.  I love the tone.
