Title: Gas Door Failure
Post by: Turbojet on December 27, 2018, 09:50:39 PM
Did anyone else run into this dilemma with their gas door pull cord.

X

I went to put Sta-Bil in the gas tank and pulled on the gas door cord and it broke.

Yep. Pretty common. About half the ones I've owned were broken.

Yeah. I'm screwed when the lock solenoid fails!

XXX
This is how I fixed my dilemma for under four dollars.
I bought a 1/16" cable around 20" long and the garage hardware at the local Ace hardware store.

I really wanted the plastic coated cable but couldn't find any.
Measured the old plastic cord against the cable and added an inch and clamped the hardware to the cable.
Used my Dremel to grind down the stop end to fit inside the plastic part.
Works good and the cable will probably outlast the car. lol

That's a good fix. I broke mine not too long ago.
