I only saw one Fox Cougar/Thunderbird last year. Let's hope this year is better!
1985 Cougar at LKQ in Dayton, OH. It was really rusty!

With the newest ones being 30 years old what do you expect? ;)
I've given up on getting any spares from the yards here. In the event that one of these cars shows up locally it's so old that everything in the car is basically used up trash, unfortunately.
I used to get lots of good parts when I lived in Las Vegas. There was never less than five of these cars at my favorite junkyard. It helps that they don't rust out there. This Cougar from yesterday was so rusty I could see through the doors.
Rust belt does that. It's rare to see a car older than about 15 years or so in the yards here.
^^ Agreed. when I started building 92-96 F series trucks in the early 2000's, I used to go wander the yard, and come home with a literal pickup load of spare goods. Now, it's a rarity to even see one in a yard anymoire.
I just looked through my pictures (I document every Fox Tbird/Cougar I find in the junkyard) and I counted 51 cars I took pics of when I lived in Las Vegas from 2008-2012. Here's most of them...

Yeah, I know all about the rust belt. I grew up in Chicago and my parents had their fair share of rusty cars. Mostly late 70s/early 80s Caprice sedans and wagons. Fun times!
I did get the grille, headlight buckets, and emblems from this recent find, so it wasn't a total bust.
This exists the next state over: http://row52.com/Vehicle/Index/1FABP64W0HH121359
I'm always looking for good exterior/interior trim/molding as spares. Problem is the parts I'm looking for on the car above are beat and not anywhere near new/NOS quality. Because of that I rarely venture to yards looking for spares anymore. It's a waste of my time.
Since owning cars I've bought new my trip to the junkyard have gone to virtually near 0... I buy most of my Thunderbird spare parts from eBay or NOS Ford parts dealers now.
I miss the days when I could find a Thunderbird at a salvage yard. It's been a lOOOOOOOOOONG time since I've seen one.
Or you for sheet metal parts :)
Or just about anything else! I just shipped a turbo coupe cylinder head to France!

Now if you can find spares of all the 87-88 LX smoke gray interior trim......
Typically, I only get the 87-88 turbo coupes, not that I am opposed to the LX models, just none have presented themselves. I just today picked up number 15. It's real ugly, but still runs good and has a lot of good parts.
Even when they're not pretty, they're
never ugly :)
Looks like a nice find. Haven't seen the inside though...
Just be glad you still find them out by you. Up in the north where it *salts* in the winter they are all but gone.
X2. So true around here.
I am usually looking for spare extra parts, and in the yard they are so worn, they are worse than my parts. What is a person to do? I guess get a Mustang, and have it all easy...….Nope.
Hah... Yep after buying my S197 it's like having a modular car
