Title: picked up a decent 1984 5.0L Thunderbird
Post by: 1WLD BRD on July 03, 2016, 05:33:25 PM
meet my new project.

it is currently powered by a stock 302 with 79,000kms (47,000 miles).  I have added a set of headers and off road h pipe and 2.5" flowmasters.  I have also done the Mustang 11" front brake upgrade with a crown vic master cylinder and Lincoln 73mm calipers. also put new struts in the front.  picked up a 1994 351W that I am currently collecting parts to drop it in with a carb.

Looks like a solid car.  351w power...can't go wrong there.  Can you do a 351w with the stock hood?

Not worried about the stock hood closing ;)  6-71's  don't fit under any hood anyways.

Lots of potential there. Nice score!

Nice ride, I have 351w in my tbird also, I have that same rear wing, but I have been on the fence about installing it.

Scored this fiberglass hood so the 6-71 idea is on a stand still for now

Somehow you keep finding Fox bodies in the great white north. You must have bought and sold everyone in Ontario ;)

Gotta do a bit of tpuppies and elongate the bolt holes in the hinges to adjust it properly yet. But at least I have it now lol.  Hope it clears my 351 carb set up.

Is that going on the 302 in the car or the 351?

Edit: Never-mind the Performer RPM 7121 is for 289-302s. I answered my own question :hick:.

Got some work done this weekend.  Pulled the engine out.

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb170/1WLDBRD/Mobile%20Uploads/20160827_182513_zps4ixpejmg.jpg) (http://s205.photobucket.com/user/1WLDBRD/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160827_182513_zps4ixpejmg.jpg.html)

Got the heads torqued, rockers adjusted, valve covers modified to clear.  Intake on.  Cut open the timing cover for a mechanical fuel pump.  Bolted on the headers.

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb170/1WLDBRD/Mobile%20Uploads/20160828_181401_zpsyrkfegea.jpg) (http://s205.photobucket.com/user/1WLDBRD/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160828_181401_zpsyrkfegea.jpg.html)

And dropped it in and bolted up the torque convertor and bell housing.

(http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb170/1WLDBRD/Mobile%20Uploads/20160829_182026_zpsqd1dd7rm.jpg) (http://s205.photobucket.com/user/1WLDBRD/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160829_182026_zpsqd1dd7rm.jpg.html)

Can't wait to drive this thing again.

Just the stock torque converter. Planning to go manual soon anyways. Ordering a new water pump today and a Lokar kick down cable.

Got it running last night.  Rockers are tapping g on the valve covers though so had to shut it down instantly.

EDIT.  that wasn't the sound.  Turns out it was my mechanical fuel pump making the sound.  Removed it and made a block off plate.  Going electric pump

The engine looks great. How did you manage to bolt it to the torque converter? Did you have the car off the ground?

It is going to be a blast getting use to all the new power.

Nope.  Had a trick flow cam and tried it.  Way too close to risk.  These heads come with a tag warning that you have to have aftermarket pistons.  These aren't the usual 70cc combustion chamber ones you usually see.

Just to up date this.  I tore the engine out and sold all the parts and dropped a 2005 6.0L LSX into it. Team Z K member and coil over kit.  Maximum motorsport Tbird caster camber plates, and more.

Which LSX did you put in it. I deal with the L96 at work a lot, and we have been starting to have issues with the cam phasers on them.

Hasn't got out yet.  Still a bit of work left to do.

Yes it is a GM auto.  700R4 right now.  I know it isn't going to love long behind the 6.0L.  But it was dirt cheap so I don't care lol.  I am on the fence about building it or just throwing a 4L80E in it.  Planning to throw a 7875 turbo on this and shooting for 700whp.  So the 4L80 is my best bet.

Fancy air filter heat shield you got there.

Just out of curiosity how much of that B&M shifter case can you cut down? I like some of them but I don't want to put one in if I have to hack the console up.
