So on my 85, the driver door would never stay open, I noticed that part of the thing in the hinge assembly was missing/broken off. I notice my Ranger is the same, and today at the JY, also saw a BII that was also the same way, were they just designed that way or something?

They rank right below the famous BBQ ignition switches...only, they won't cause you to need a new vehicle. My Mountaineer is the first Ford i didn't need to put a new hinge in, although it does need the bushing kit now. I have it all, just need to install it. (something about a glaring lack of warm weather, and/or motivation to go freeze while doing it.)

Both my foxes are fine but I had a 95 Thunderbird several years ago that the hinge bushing went bad on. Heck the foxes still have the original hinge from what I can tell and they are tight.

No, no not hinge pins/bushings, I mean the piece the roller wheel on the bottom hinge pushes up against to keep the door open.
This pass side door has it intact, but the driver's door, it's like part of it is missing, or was never there to begin with.

The flat piece of metal that goes against the plastic wheel is broken off. Not sure how common but think it's not unusual to find them that way.
Seems like a design that is pr0ne to failing. My guess is the drivers side will break first since it see more use.
