Title: Locar TV cable
Post by: Chrome on August 26, 2012, 12:46:55 PM
OK, first the back story. The plastic bushing at the throttle body broke and disappeared. Drove the Bird, not knowing about it, and lost 3rd and fourth. Thought this a perfect time to do my HO swap since the donor HO has an AOD attached. The Mustang with the HO and AOD was originally a standard and has not been driven much at all since automatic conversion. My HO swap is completed other than a few bugs to work out. Have not been able to get trans to shift at correct points. I turned it over to my tranny guy. He has found that he can not get enough adjustment out of the TV cable. May be something altered in the tranny, or could be this trans needs a different cable set up. Don't know because I don't know the origin of the trans. My solution is to get a cable from Locar and do away with the pivot. A Locar cable would most likely have an infinate adjustment. Problem is, I am finding multiple cables from Locar. Does anyone know the part# I should be looking for?

this is the one I bought..
it actually works for TB or carb with the parts and instructions they included... It doesn't say that, but I found a link on a stang forum that said to use this one.. I was actually a little scared when it got here and I saw the parts, because it doesn't look anything like the stock cable setup, but  it installed in about 15 min

I believe, if you just have a TB on a carb base from an 85 or older... you need this part too

A friend of mine is running the Lokar cable on the 331/AOD he stuffed in his RX7.  He seems to think it works ok.

I used a Lokar kickdown on my 84 Cougar.  Worked great!  Especially paired up with a shift kit in the AOD

what do you mean "remove all the junk"?....it's a replacement for the original cable, but it still has the springs and brackets and such much like the stock setup
