Title: Help on the ole water leak........
Post by: shorangerbird on December 21, 2011, 03:44:34 PM
-did a search but found no pertinant infomation.  i seem to have a water leak on the passenger side floorboard of my '86 TC.  i found the carpet wet on monday by accident and i dont recall seeing any water trails when i put in the heater core back in october, but i really wasnt looking that hard.  everything "looks" normal around that area, but has anyone found something before that might point me as to where to look for a leak??? thanks...:)

Windshield seal, especially at the top and the cowl area...you could very well have some missing sealant and the water will drip down inside. Same with rust in the same areas. Otherwise, if you know for sure that you've got a good windshield seal, then it pretty much has to be somewhere from the core box. Does it smell like coolant or is it just water for sure?

eric is spot on, as usual.. did you make sure the heater box is sealed? whenever i can't get seals and rip the old 1's, i just run a small bead of black silicone all the way around the box to seal it back up

-havent smelled coolant since i put in the core, and i put the floor mat to my nose and didnt smell any when i found it.  thought i got the box back up good, but i may be too sure of myself on that...lol, but the seals still looked good.  i havent spotted any drips from the roof/windshield area while driving, (though they could still be there).  prolly gonna be somewhere thats hard to find i'm sure.....

If you put in a cheappy heater core, every one I have done has only lasted about a year. I also put a lot of miles on my cars and never ran the restricor or flushed the coolant.
