Title: looking for a TPS
Post by: cougar1car on November 27, 2011, 05:00:59 PM
I am looking for someone with a known working TPS for the 3.8 for my 88 Cougar. I do not know if it is the exact problem so am looking for a cheaper used one to either rule it out or pinpoint it as the issue.

Thanks

I've got one in the garage from my old motor. Been sitting for a while, but it worked fine when I had it. I can get pictures for you hopefully tomorrow.

PS did you run codes? What's the problem?

The problem is listed here

New Egr I've also noticed if you go in to the gas light the less it hesitates the faster you push the gas down the more it does it..

Also when you put the car in park from drive it idles up and down and most times stalls. If you keep it in gear no idle issues once its in park it idles real rough.

Still looking... The TPS I got apparently is not the correct one. I went to replace it and looked totally different.I could not find anything that looked like what I got. Mine looks like the pic below.. Unless I'm an idiot and am just missing it.

That is a tps, and a slightly diffrent style, but operates the same. Oldfuelinjection.com has a diagram if you want to cut your wires after the connector and put some different connections to slide on the pins.

You should be running codes instead of throwing money at it. What codes do you get? Oldfuelinjection.com will give you a walkthrough on that as well.

Not even a pass or stored memory code? Did you try clearing them?

What are your voltages on your old tps? There isn't any point fixing things that aren't broke.
