Its the 86 Xr7 my dad bought from a member on here last year. He dont understand nunna that fuel injection  so he wants to trade for my fairmont, which hes rebuilding a 351c for but will probably never get done... whatever. Anyway...

It has an IHI and 87-88 hood/IC combo swapped in, other than that, all stock. The IHI is trashed though, so I have a decision to make there. I can either swap the IHI from my TC in or I can swap a T3/T4 china turbo and cross my fingers. Its an auto car though so I think Ill just stick with the IHI and maybe port an E6 and find one of those compressor upgrades on ebay.

As I said it has a C3, which I plan on keeping at least for a while. It has a decent size cooler in the front, so that gives me hope that the tranny is in good shape. Can anything be done performance-wise to these?

What all needs to be swapped to bring an 83-86 2.3 to 87-88 specs? I know VAF, injectors, LA3, but what about the intake manifold and throttle body? The TB is definitely smaller. It has the taller style intake too, for the older style valve cover (which I like).

At this point my plan is to swap any goodies I can from my TC and then it will be up for parts/sale/s. The body is just too far gone for me to deal with, the XR7 is in way better shape.

I'm pretty sure throttle bodies are the same.  The short intake will fit on the older valve cover but with NO clearance for plug wires.

Is the short intake better though?

intake swap wont make any difference other than clearance issues. TB is the same. 86 should already have browntops with a small VAM and a Pxx computer.

Since it already has an IHI/IC/hood, the only things you need to reach stock 87-88 level is a big VAM and Lxx or 8au PCM. You might find some minor sensor differences between the 87-88 intakes and 86. IIRC I had to drill my lower for the ACT when I did the LA3 swap on my 85.5 motor

I coulda swore the injectors were either red or green...light messes with my colors a bit though. You're prolly right.

So which turbo do you guys think I should use? I've also got that big fmic that you fixed ethan..
