Title: can't find ground effects
Post by: topjimmy on February 06, 2011, 02:14:10 PM
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the site so I hope everyone is doing well. I have a '86 Elan T-bird. I found a mint condition '84 Fila edition and thinkin on gettin it for my better half. I love these cars and have had a few of them (T-birds/Cougars). I would like to find a set of ground effects hand have been disappointed everywhere I look. Can anyone direct me to the good stuff? I will try to post pics of my '86 soon but bear with me...I suck with computers. HAHA..

I think ground effects for our cars are discontinued so your best bet is to keep your eyes on the junkyards and the For Sale section here on our board.  By the way, welcome to the board!

Posting pics is easy here.  You can add them as an attachment by clicking manage attachments (you may have to click Go Advanced for this first) or linking to them from a host site like Photobucket.

Thanks for the info even though it's not in my favor. I'll keep my eyes open for used loot. Also for a better idea of how to post pics. Mine is pretty sweet. Under 100k. Always garaged! In fact it's been in my shop sitting for over 13 yrs. Been in the family since '88. I'm really excited to be a part of a group that thinks the same thng about these cars as I do. So far most of the rides I've seen on this site are pretty cool. I'm jacked up!!! A sweet new source of info & fun. Right on! Thanks again.

I have a set of side skirts, I know they fit 87-88.

Otherwise wickedbodies.net had some a while back. They changed their website I think and I can't pull them up anymore. Might be worth it to call.

I have a full set for the 83-86 bird. Never been painted or installed on a car. I'm willing to part with it if the price is right.

It's the Kamei kit, not the one that looks like eric's but the one that looks like 83heritage's car.

Ok. I'm a machinist not a computer genius. I'm gonna find help posting my pics later. Right now I think I'll just go change oil in my super duty & tercel. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.

Thanks for posting those pics.  Another company(?) did a similar nose piece.  They claimed it gave a boost to top speed.  I had pics of it at one time, I cannot find it now.

I made a how to for you on posting pics.  Just follow the steps in the pics and you should be good.

First click the "Go Advanced" button under the Quick Reply box. (1st pic)

Then scroll down a little bit and click the "Manage Attachments" button.  (2nd pic)

Then click the "Add Files" button.

After clicking that a little box will pop up then click the "Add Files" button and you are all set.  After selecting the files you want (you can hold Ctrl to select multiple) make sure you click the "Upload Files" button to complete the upload.

Looks good. Is the spoiler from a Fiero? I know of and have seen some pics. of Birds with that type of spoiler. Looks like an older style wheel too. Nice!

The spoiler is from a fiero. You got a good eye. Hopefully I can pick up an 84 Fila edition this month. The one I'm lookin @ is a one owner car and only has barley 42k on it. KBB says the car is worth almost $6000 but I think I can get it for under $3500. What a score! I'll post pics of it too if I get it.

Wow that sounds like a nice ride. I hope you can pick it up. It looks like you have enough room for a few more Birds in your garage.

Thanks, I checked out some pics of your bird too. Dude I like it. I also looked @ your profile and it says you work in a machine shop. Cool I'm a machinist too. I'm lookin to trick out my dirt bike with custom cnc'ed parts this spring. I love this stuff.

Thanks, I've had it since 1990 and it was all original then. I'm actually not a machinist I'm a laborer in a machine shop. I've run a few machine but someone else had to set it up. I do pretty much all the pressure washing now. We do alot of work for a locomotive co. mainly brake systems. I pressure wash alot of air compressures for them. Those cncs are awsome! It's incredible what can be made with them. That bike sounds like a cool project.

you know I was lookin a bit more @ the pics of your car and after further review... YOUR CAR IS BAD ASS! Where did you get that cowl indution hood? The bike prject is a lobor of love. First I took a stock XR400R... a mild monored trail bike and turned it into an off road monster. Now it's time to take a different direction. I'm gonna build a full on motocross machine. People will ask "Why" and I will say "Cause I can". Your T-Bird is super sweet man!

Sorry for not getting back to you right away, I've been working alot of OT.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it I try to do something to it every year even if it's something small. The hood is from usbody.com or hoods.com it thier 3" cowl induction and since I show the car I went wit the finished underside. I can also use my factory hinges and latch. I'm always amazed with some of the stuff that gets fabbed at the shop, the same with the parts that come out of the cnc's it's really awsome to see a plain piece of metal turn into something!

thanx for the info on the hood. glad to see someone gets some ot in this economy. gonna get alot of that myself  next week. doesn't look like i'll be able to get the 84 fila edition like I wanted. bummer! too many other irons in the fire... you know. I live in WA but lookin to make a trip to NC next summer. I see you are in PA. Maybe we could hook up and swap lies and have a beer or somethin.

Yeah if you're close enough I could show you my Bird in person (not my finger lol). My parents have a couple antiques you might like. A 66 Merc. Comet Cyclone Gt with a 390 hipo. It's black with white stripe on the sides. They also have a 67 Fairlane 500 with a 289. Then my sister has a 67 Mustang that is an original dusk rose car (pink). It would be great to show them to ya.
