Title: fuel pump
Post by: Beau on June 27, 2010, 06:50:33 PM
Think the stocker went out.

But, it just died like lickety split....every other one I've had go out on me have done so gradually. You know, bad performance, loss of power, hesetation, slight missing etc.

I parked it, a couple of weeks later, it won't start. Not out of gas, and it'll briefly fire if I spray some starting fluid into the airbox.

Also there's no hum or click or anything when I turn the key to on...
I do have a Walbro 255 pounder to go in, but just mainly wondering if fuel pumps usually just die altogether like this one, or if it's a gradual thing, like all the others I've had...

As for my little crack about selling the Sport...well, I don't WANT to, but.....if someone makes the right offer/trade...I *may* be game

There's some other stuff that goes with it...it's not just the car itself.
Kind of a "feeler" if you will.

But anyway, going to swap in the 255'er and will post here the results. Mods, if this needs to be moved, sorry, didn't know if it should've been in engine tech or electrical, etc. :D

Wow, this is just f*cked up. I posted a coupla pics, and the results to the new pump....12 hours later it's gone. Weird.

Umm, yes, I did check those first Haystack, but they were normal and functioning.

The old pump was bad, this sucker runs like a champ now. I'll get a video clip here in a bit....

Still dunno why my last post on this didn't work.Grr.

I won't just sell it for cash...but I would trade it for another '88.....

However since nobody in their right mind would trade my half-assed and half-assembled car for a runner..... :hick:

Oh, I got a vid of it idling and revving and whatnot, but it's ini a format that photobarfit won't upload....I'll see what I can do.

It idles nice and smooth now though...really nicely.

O.K.,I need more than that !!! Why are you wanting to get rid of it for another one? Has it become too overwhelming a project? I had those thoughts with the Sport at one point.I even quit working on it for some time.I would bolt a part on,swap something, whatever, and look at it and I just wasn't seeing any progress. After being "hands-off" for about two months,my wife said "it's not going to finish itself".She was right.I got motivated and did what I needed to do.You can't be that far from big success. You've done a lot.
