i have tried changing the cap rotor tfi plugs wires an catilatic converters still imy 88 cougar ls with a 5.0 in it only allows me to reach about two grand an then she spitts an spuders an sometimes kills what do i do an theres not ten thousand on the fuel pump an changed the fuel filter any ideas what else

Is it throwing any codes?

I would do the coil, and check your spark plug gaps and wires. v-8's still run okay if you have the wires clocked one over until you put it under load. I would also pull codes.
