Title: Some possible good news for our cars....
Post by: vinnietbird on March 24, 2010, 01:03:42 PM
I have a guy making me a new "decal" for my center console panel for dual power seats, and I asked him for 5 dual seat and 5 single power seat "decals" (vinyl material).Once I get them in a couple of weeks or so,and put it to use,I'll report on it,with pics, and if the results are nice enough,I hope to be able to hook up some fellow members here with them. It's only the control panel, only for single and dual power seats.

Thought I'd share that small bit of info with the fellow tribe members. here.

About $75.00 each plus the shipping.

Let me know how they turn out as I would be interested in a dual seat set up. Thanks

75....kinda high priced for me.

I'd change my tune if they're really nice though. Probably no plans for NO power seats, since they're pretty uncommon like that, right?

Not that there's anything wrong with the one I got from ya awhile back...

I was kidding about the price. My guess (JUST a guess) will be about $20.00 shipped.Still a little high, but, gotta make it worth what I pay,my time, and all that good stuff.

I have a panel here at the house that is completely blank.Nothing on it,just a blank black console panel.

Well,I know what it's like to be on a budget, and need parts for the car (or want),and not be able to find those little parts that really make a difference.I have a nice interior, and the py console panel really stands out....in a bad way,so,I want to keep the price realistic.

Could he possibly make a special one with the Carcraft logo and top controls, for a full center console?

I think it was more of a silk screen kind of process. So to speak.

When you get to that point,I think he may be able to fix you up.Now,that's me saying that.LOL.He may say different. He has always come through for me.

I could send you the original to copy for the full console, as long as I get it back.. after all, they only made about 100 of them total

No worries.I have no idea the cost.I'll se how much these are going to cost me that I'm working on right now.He said after he makes them,he'll keep the design on a disc so he can go back and make more, and easily modify them to my needs. As soon as these come in (in a couple of weeks or so),I'll let you know what he says.Jerry,do you need one of the others for the current project? If so,I'll consider it a contractual obligation.LOL.

I do, but not sure about the 1 or 2 power seats yet. I may put the pass power seat in the vert instead, and move the top controls to the cool dash panel you got me that goes by the steering column

Actually, that's a cool idea, then, pack the original console panel safely away somewhere. That's an easy mod for the vert.Either way,let me know what you need and I'll take care of it.

...um.......get a full length console.LOL.

I have to start somewhere, and starting with what applies to my own Sport seems the smart thing to do.LOL.If they work out,and are worth my time,I may try to expand the offerings a little at a time if the demand is high enough. The problem is,and I am including myself in this comment....we all want and need parts, but aren't always willing (or able) to pay what it takes to get it....so...I'm starting with these decals and hopefully will be able to get some other "needs" out there for the masses at a price I myself would be willing to pay.Trying to keep it realistic and accessible.Otherwise, what's the point?

It's frustrating that we have to go to such great lengths for even tiny amounts of aftermarket support specifically for our cars.  But I'm thankful for people like Vinnie and many other members of this board that take the time to do so and then share the fruits of their labor with the rest of us.

Without each other,we'd be in a bad way with these cars.

I think part of the problem is that, as a body, we tend to be cheap. We'll spend a billion dollars on some stereo or aftermarket turbo bit, but we complain like mad when someone wants $100 for some new this-that-or-the-other-thing, even when it's in perfect shape.

I don't think we are any "cheaper" than Mustang drivers.  It's just that there are more of them so the parts are cheaper to begin with.

I'm cheap...so to speak, but with a reason...I can see spending $100 on big parts, but I find it hard to spend that kind of money on small things like an NOS light,or console piece,or horn button.I feel like I can get more for my money on other things like headers, differential,( I have two of them for that amount and less).Things like that.

I'm not so sure, I think if good reproduction parts were available you would spend the money. From what I've seen of your car, you will spend good money when it's for a good part, while I have seen others complain quite a bit about it.

Who knows, maybe I'm just grumpy because I still have packing left to do, and we move on the 1st.

I do find it odd that there seems to be no NOS parts around for our cars. When I had my asc/McLaren convertible (1984-1990 total production: 2,359), there were quite a bit of NOS parts available, yet there just doesn't seem to be any for our Thunderbirds.

It would depend on what the part is.If I can refurbish a part and make it as good as new (or almost),I'd pass on new stuff. Most all of the parts I got that are new or NOS were still cheap.I'm really a patient shopper.I'd love to see some repro stuff start showing up.The most needed parts...console control panel "plates",dash assemblies (I remember when a brand new from Ford dash was $300.00),and so on.I wonder how much it would cost "Just dashes to restore one.I'd guess a lot more than we would pay.

For any T-birds from 1967-1997 you're pretty much SOL for finding parts. Now if you own a 1955-1966 T-bird you can get pretty much any part you need.

Maybe 10 years from now, we may be sitting pretty. It has to start somewhere.

I always liked T-birds, had a 85 and a 91, never thought about it much to to make them better. Then about 5 years ago bought my cat from my sons girlfreind, just to buy something to get around. Found this sight, never looked back! The whole car is different. Oh yeh I doubt it will ever be done.

I agree,it'll never be done.I am getting closer to a slow down point though.Once the engine and interior are done,I can chill for a while and just detail and mess with what I have,

Hey Vinnie, Remember Areobird He use to sell them, He gave me one once for his screw up, They will work but the plate got to be clean, real clean. The guy that does are lettering on our trucks could do them to, I wasn't to thrilled about that route after trying one. I tried mine without the plate that's attached to it, results were ok. If you have the plate still there it may work better. I was told about $20 to, never followed up on it though.
