Any one check this thing out yet??

That thing looks mean. I read an article today that said it would be available in either front or all wheel drive plus either the regular 263HP V6 or the EcoBoost 363HP V6. Plus the normal patrol car stuff like heavy duty suspension, stab resistant front seat backs, wider opening rear doors, cut outs in the front seats for holsters, etc.
Ya the article that I read also stated that I was supposed to be able to protect the driver from a 75 mph rear end collision
Those cops aren't going to like getting away from a full-frame car.
Notice how they moved the auto shifter to the column to make room for all the police equipment on the console.
I just like the Crown Vic better.
I don't see this being terribly successful. Compared to a full frame (that hails from the mid-70's), solid rear, rwd V8 barge, this AWD unibody, TTV6 "full-size" (compared to a Fusion) sedan is not going to be very cost effective for a fleet vehicle. Especially for an industry that is brutally hard on their cruisers. Imagine an annual fleet maintenance budget for these, compared to the Vic.
I know this, the rear end pumpkin assy for the awd version is solid state and costs over $2000. Plus it looks like a version that Robocop would drive.
A lot of them already have. Lots of chargers and impalas out this way.
Its just not too good when youre crown vic cruiser can only manage 16's in the quarter and a lot of people you get in chases with have faster cars.
The main thing about the CV is it's basic toughness. It's cheap, and it's the only full size 4 door left. With that said, the newer cars will be cheaper on fuel, but the toughness is in question.
Look at Ford's sales figures for the 'Vic...the writing is on the wall.
I don't know how the cops feel about them; but I would love to have one sitting in my driveway!
i dont see anything wrong with it.
cops in half puppiesanese cars chasing other puppiesanese cars, sounds about right.
ford hasnt invested anything worth mentioning into the crownvics in how long?
Which half of the Taurus is puppiesanese again? It's got a Ford engine in a Volvo platform...
Anyway, the only advantage the CVPI has over any other car is cost, and the only reason the costs are so low is because the platform paid for itself decades ago. Not only that, but most police equipment (consoles, screens, roof light mounts, mirror lights, etc) are designed for the CVPI so most police depts reuse this stuff when decommisioning a car.
Other than cost, any of the CVPI's competitors will run rings around it acceleration and handling wise. I haven't been inside a new Taurus, but if its interior has as much room as a CVPI it will keep most cops happy. The Impala has a long interior but isn't as wide...
your right , i forgot ford had the volvo platform and i was thinking this was another mazduh platform car.
oh well, same difference.
Our local police stations have already switched over to Chargers and Magnums.
I was kinda hoping for a rear wheel, or awd platform with the new 5.0 engine.:burnout:
No cop cars are fast...you can't outrun their radio anyway. We have Chargers and Impala cop cars too...but the officers I have talked to really miss their old Caprices and really don't want to give up the Vic.
Best police car ever!:

and see all the various vehicles our local PD has. (Lynnwood, WA)
A '69 Dodge 440 Polara police interceptor was pretty fast. ;)
This belongs to a good buddy of mine. Drives it everywhere, always at every cruise-in and car show around here. '72 Polara 440, and yea, she moves out alright. ;)

I meant modern cop cars. I should probably narrow that statement down to "cruisers". The Indiana State Police has several 05-09 body style Mustangs.
Actually, if the chassis is Volvo sourced, won't that mean it's half Chinese? ;)
your friend isnt interested in trading that for some arms and legs i dont use anymore, is he? :D
There are several corvette cop cars out here donaited by a chevy dealership. There used to be two 70's sting rays as highway patrol cars that were still in use.
As far as replacing favorite police cars, I remember in 1991-1992 when the new "bathtub" shaped Caprice cruisers came out.
All of the cops hated them and they would try to keep the mileage down on their 86-90 Caprices so they could keep them longer.
My guess is the same will happen. Cops will want to keep their Crown Vics as long as possible.
When I went to Purdue University, the campus police had a '99 T/A they used as a promotional tool for "alchohol awareness" or something. (We were all very aware of alchohol already, lol). Anyway you would see it cruise campus in the warmer months. I only saw it pull anyone over once, and the cop had George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" blaring on the radio. It was hilarious.

A hemi charger will undercut it in the cost department and in the maintenance department as well I would imagine. Not to mention they look badass.

HUH?
From my experience, Chrysler products have ALWAYS been the most $$$ of the Big 3. Their volume production alone did not allow for the price deals that Ford and (especially) GM could do.
Although with gubberm't bailout $, who knows???
He's right on one thing at least...the HEMI Charger cop cars do look bad ass.
Base price Charger R/T: $32,120
Base Price Taurus SHO: $37,770
Crown Vics cost my job about $23K a piece from what I understand.....A moot point as they are disappearing.
Funny thing is, when the "bathtub" Caprice went away cops tried to hang onto them for as long as possible because with the LT1 they were superior to the Crown Vic. I knew one in particular that had over 300k km on it (~200k miles) and had been through several paint jobs. The cop that drove it always said that when the car retires, he retires. Far as I know he kept that promise...
