Is the seal/gasket ring thing, that goes in the side of the tank, that the filler neck seals with, the same for mustangs and cougars?

Will this piece work for my cougar tank?

I would guess yes. Only because my 86 Bird has a seal for a 82 Cougar installed and it works fine. If the filler necks are equal in diameter I'm confident that it'll work.

The actual Ford part is : F4ZZ-9072-DA

It's a wee bit thicker than the stock one. Fits fine and stops leaks.
