Some big cool looking one came to my shop and won't leave.
It's been 4 days and he won't even try. I've been feeding him and giving water, Hell it even lets me hold and pet him. It is banded, I did put a lost bird thing on a national sight, never heard anything yet. I can't keep him, any ideas? I do here there good eating, but I would rather have chicken.
I believe it's a homing pigeon if it's banded.
We had one stay with us for about a week, and then it left. It's probably lost and seeking food and shelter on it's way back home. they get lost sometimes in bad wind and rain storms.
The band should tell you everything. get a pic of the bird and band if you can
What do you do? I would hate to see it run over, because thats whats going to happen at my shop. I got him in a closed room for now with food and water, he seems content.
does the band have stripes or numbers.
Ours was perched in a tree for about a week by our porch.
take the bugger home and stick him on the porch or something. When hes ready , he will fly off.
got a good heart man!
I'd get him out of the shop and near or access to open air incase he decides its time to beat feet.
as for the chickens,,
We had a couple good egg laying hens. one laid white eggs and the other brown. We had a banti (midget) rooster. Theory was he couldnt breed with those big ass hens we had. One hen finally died off of old age and so did roostie.
they ran free range and stayed in the yard. thats as far as they went , never took off.
Owl or puppies killed the remaining hen we think.
im sure there is someone near me who raises carrier and homing pigeons because i see them around here alot. tags and bands on thier leg but never bothered to see what they say on them. they are very friendly and will pretty much come right up to you if you call them which is a miracle considering the way some people treat pigeons around here.
hell probly hang around for a few days and fly off on his own if there is nothing wrong with him.
when i was younger i used to think it was ridiculous for people to put up a lost pigeon sign because they are well.. pigeons, and everywhere and all basically look the same.
Hopefully he will fly away today, Jerry it got 2 solid bands green and black, the black one has a #22 on it, the green one is blank.
it's not a national organization band, so it's probably private. it comes to you so it's not a tracking band on a wild pigeon.
Give it some bird seed and he'll go home when he's ready. just let him out in a safe place.
If he still won't go home sign him up here.

I have a ring-neck dove as a pet. They are technically pigeons. She is one of the best pets I have ever had. Affectionate too!
They laugh, and hoot too. The laugh is so funny... Regular pigeons don't laugh, but still... I bet they can be affectionate too.
I believe it's illegal to keep wild birds as pets, but that's neat that he's hanging around you :)
Here's a picture of my chubby little bird. She likes to hang out with my wife's stuffed animals.
I kicked him out, with a bowl of water and food. It can fly it just doesn't want to.
No trucks will run him over this weekend, but there is a fox and a few stray cats around.
Hopefully he takes off.
No sight of him today, He either flew away or got eaten.
He probably went home. they usually sit pretty high up, out of harms way.
