Title: Sport Verificatio Question
Post by: jpc647 on July 31, 2009, 05:36:59 PM
Just wondering,  if the vin indicates it is a sport, but it has a non sport interrior was that a possible factory setup? My parts car is 1fabp61 but it doesn't have the turbo coupe style seats, it has two two gray and light gray seats like my base model seats with the consolete.

It was a v8 car, floor shift, full digital dash, traction-lock rear, with quad shocks. The car is a 1987.

Just curious, was reading a post by Thunder Chicken that afabp61 indicates its a sport. I was just curious.

That is a Sport. 1987 Sports had the base style seats with full console and floor shifter. In 88 they got the TC style seats.

Thank you. So there really isn't anything special about the car, which is good because it was used to keep my slightly more presentable 88 on the road.

Actually there is, and you've pretty much listed it off: Quad shock traction lock rear (even though it's only a 7.5, it's more desirable than the base pegleg rear), floor shift, etc. And it's also got TC-spec springs and roll bars. Cosmetically, it's got blacked out window trim instead of chrome. If the 88 is a base model and only slightly more presentable than the Sport I'd recommend keeping the Sport. If the 88 is in much better shape keep it, but turn it into an "unofficial" Sport by swapping the shift linkage, console, sway bars, etc out of the '87.

Here's something odd about the 87 T-bird: you could get the TC seats and a floor shift in the LX not the Sport :hick:. I've seen an 87 T-bird LX 5.0 (which was mint with 23,000 original miles) that had Turbo Coupe seats, floor shift, and a full digi dash but the py LX sway bars and springs. Ford fixed it for 88 though ;)

I've seen one too, Thunderjet302. The one I saw had a TC hood and full ground effects as well, and was rotting in somebody's back yard (the guy I bought my first set of 10-holes from). I thought it was a Sport until I looked at the VIN...
