I doubt any one brand is that much better than another. You could buy one with a lifetime guarantee. Then it will be the last one you buy.
Bought mine with a lifetime warranty,just keep the box and recipt.
However a permanent fix would be to remote mount it,that way it won't heat up.
Mounted mine up on the firewall,it stays cool to the touch at all times, when touching the distributor would give you a nasty burn.
Knowing Ric, he needs to keep things factory correct so I don't see a remote mount in his future (although it does help greatly).
Ric, I would opt for either the Motorcraft or the AC Delco. I haven't had great luck with Wells sensors over the years and can't recommend that brand. For originality, you won't go wrong with a Motorcraft replacement.
If your old TFI module is still good then throw that in the trunk as a spare. You never know when you'll need one...
Ric, Our mechanic installed a Motorcraft (tfi module) just yesterday on the Cougar and suggested that we needed to stay with this brand. :poke:
I guess I'll buy a extra motorcraft and stick it in the trunk

My stock one broke a few months ago lasted 20+ years.
5.0 resto has them for cheap like $30 or so
I could still see a remote mounted TFI. Keeping it looking stock you just gut and old toasted TFI. Buy another TFI pigtail and get the heat sink from the salvage yard. Take the old gutted TFI and use that to pass the PIP signal along with the new pigtail. Use all the extra wires along with the ones you used for the PIP signal and some Wire covering to make it blend in. Then Take the heat sink and good TFI and find a sight unseen location to hide them. Extend the wiring needed and Now you have the best of both worlds. Stock LOOK and remote mount all in one. Had one shop tell me my TFI was bad. Showed them it should be here it is EMPTY inside. Had to show them the real TFI and told them no thanks. I've had TFI REMOTE MOUNTED written on the Pass through unit!
But yes I still suggest the Motorcraft unit. But with the remote mount just about any will work.

The 3.8L V6 in my '88 had the TFI module mounted on a heat sink, which was mounted on the core support.
I've still got the 21 year old Motorcraft TFI on my T-bird. I should probably get a replacement and throw it in the trunk, just in case.
