To Insure Proper Service.
That being said I went to Waffle House this past Sunday morning/afternoon with my GF after her Prom. Always go to the same one, always treated great and one of my Moms old high school friends works there as of about a year ago. Never had too much to complain about.
Now I am also a very generous tipper. Usually 25%+ but I tip by service not the percentage of the bill. I have only not tipped once and with good reason.
Well this last trip was not the best. Waitress forgot my drink, slammed the syrup twice, spilled some of my GF drink and didnt even get a rag or anything to clean it up, and only checked up when she gave us the bill. I could have understood if she was busy but she wasnt, and she had an attitude.
Well bill came out to 16.61, and I tipped .39. Even $17.00 on my card and I was hoping a wake up to her. Check my account on line today and the charge went though as 19.61. Funny that my tip started with a .3 and it became a 3. Guess she thought she would get away with it.
Just got off the phone with my Mom's friend to see what I should do. She told me that she would talk to the manager about it and let her know I will be in this weekend to speak with her. Might have worked if I didnt check my account, too bad for her Im really broke right now and did.
I dont want to get her fired but she has had complains before from what I was told. All I want is for them to make it right and I am sure they will. Was super pissed when I saw it but now Im just kind of surprised that she felt she deserved a $3 tip and had the right to change it!
End of my morning rant. I still love me some Waffle House!
Only time I went to waffle house I had a waiter argue with my homeless friend about who was more homeless. Pass!
You know everytime I have been to a Waffle House I have to say I was not impressed with the service EVER. Probably helps when you have a friend who works there. Believe me I'd be calling the manager and going in to talk to them as well. The more pissed off and outrageous your behavior the more you are looking to get done here. That is NOT how someone should do business and the fact that she took advantage of a young guy like yourself is angering. This is why I bring a pen with me that has the ODDEST ink color I can find so this sort of thing cannot happen. Sorry I went off on a rant here.
I tip by service too....... and i wouldve done the same thing.... specially being jobless....
I love Waffle House. I think I actually got better service before my Moms friend worked there because me and my buddies had a waitress we always got. She took care of us and we took care of her (One of my buddys tips like me, plus what everyone else throws in, and my full tip). Now that we are In college or the service that doesnt happen like it used to.
I work in Customer Assistance so when I flip out on someone it is a bad day. I HATE it when it happens to me, and I always apologize if I do. Working in retail changes your view on service everywhere. You do get more in most cases if you go crazy on their ass but it isnt worth that to me, not over 3 bucks. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, usually bits me in the ass but that who I am.
Im just going to see how things go. I have no reason to believe things wont get fixed.
I worked in the car biz so I guess my outlook on people is a little skewed now, but they need to repay you and reprimand her for being a thief. That is what is most important here.
Call you card company tell them the story. They will most likely take the charge off. I had a server do something similar with a tip a few years back. I called the card company & they removed the entire charge as a fraud.
Update. All I have to do is go in and get my money. This isnt the first time she has done this. She has put in a 5.00 as a 50.00 before. There is "supposed" to be some reprimand for her attitude and the charge. It was clear on the receipt, which they pulled to see if she changed it, and all she did was change it in the computer. Accident? I dont really think so. Things are planned to be fixed, we'll see how it goes.
And that's the problem...she did it once before. :flame:
In the words of Vincent K. McMahon (WWE) "You're Fired!!" :rollin:
I would take it further than getting your $3 back.
What she did was fraud...and theft. Definitely turn it in to your credit card company. If she has done this before, she will do it again.
Do not let her get away with this.
To me its only $3. Ill let Karma deal with the rest of her.
Like the new sig bro!!!!!!!
Thanks! Just messing around with some stuff and came up with that. Couldnt get it to do what I wanted it to.
Looks good man
I'll be ed. Same thing just happened to us. We went to a mexican restaurant for lunch with a couple of co-workers on Cinco de Mayo. We've gone there many times before and never had a problem. We generally tip pretty well (based on service and amount) but this lady was bad. The only thing that showed up promptly was the bill. And we had to tackle her just to pay it!
Now I hate under tipping as I understand their payscale and how they make money. And I also understand that when your are understaffed and the place is swamped (which is wasn't, but that was her excuse) things can get a little hectic, but when the service provided is almost just as good as no service at all (not to mention burning an hour and a half lunch @ dinner prices) we felt we needed to make a statement. Either never come back (which would be a shame because the food is pretty good) or under tip. We tipped her $2 between me and my wife's food via credit card. I have no idea what what everyone else tipped. Probably something similar. They paid with cash.
Then I saw your post the next day and couldn't help but laugh at the coincidence. I made a post about my experience but it didn't go through. Our connection sucks at work. At any rate I'll be ed if my wife didn't just tell me that she changed the amount of the tip. I have only experienced someone changing the tip once. And that guy removed the tip. I was picking up a To Go order and he brought everything to my car. I was in a good mood so I tipped him a couple bucks. For whatever reason he removed it.
This lady actually decided that she deserved more money. I understand that times are tough, but stealing? Really? I don't think this lady knows what she is getting herself into. When my wife gets pissed she is a f'n terror! I make sure I get well out of harm's way in such situations. Usually by putting on some headphones and hiding in the closet. Don't want to be collateral damage. lol.
Going up there tomorrow after work I hope. Well she said my GF had an attitude, which she did after the waitress started throwing herself around like a 13 yr old girl that didnt get her way. She didnt make any rude coments but she doesnt have to. The look of death is enough.
The more I think about it the more it being an "accident doesnt make any sense.
Bill went
Balance- $16.61
Tip - .39
Total- $17.00
I hot the wrong keys all the time but for her to hit the 0 twice when it should have been a 9 once is off. Then the total is even. She could get those two 0s on the tip though. Having a bad day as it is so glad Im not going today.
You tipped $0.39 too much...
When I'm not happy they get ZERO.
I have gone in before and told the waitress that I'll be happy as long as I don't see the bottom of my glass. I generally tip up to 50% semi regularly, assuming the service is okay. I have left a $20 tip on a $5 bill. I used to get coffee and cheese fries at a local family restuaunt. I went to the same one for many years. I even got my own coffee. Me and my freinds would meet outside and smoke while we waited for the rest of our party. When I came inside I already had a table and my order ready. I even had some things paid for by the owner even if I wanted to pay for it. I quit going there after about 2 years ago.
I came in, paid $5 for a cup of really bad coffee with free refills and didn't get a single refill in the hour I was there. My food came to me cold and wrong order, without cheese fries, but they were on my bill. That was also the last time I went there.
oh how noble:rollin:
thats 18% of a tip there man! I travel a lot and tip well but once burned, I am usually in town long enough to revisit the situation and have them fix it on the spot.
little angle nailed it.
that carma you talk about is visiting every thief , cheat and slickster in the market now and rewarding them all. Keep on feeding them and they will continue to work around the debt they owe carma. keep ignoring it and soon they will be your future lawmaker,,lol
The only thing preventing you from doing anything real about is is the fact you know people there. Have the corp office of the eatery get involved and send in your complaint to them ,, along with your intent to sue for damages.
wanna know how much tip fraud I have had this year alone?
Last year was about 350 dollars in fraud
this year its up to 200. Times are hard but it happens about every third or fourth time i go get food somewhere. Indiana and florida are my most troublesome states.
Oh thank you so much. You could do something about it and help everyone or you can let Karma do it and let everyone get swindled. Think about it do you catch someone stealing other things and let Karma Deal with it. Hope not. That kinda of thinking is part of the problem. Sure you wouldn't wanna get in trouble if you had done that but if she did it to you and has done it before what kinda message does that send her. Your telling her it is alright as long as they don't catch you. What about telling her you knew not to steal but you did it anyway so this is what you get. This is a major offense. CC fraud is a Federal crime. Just my 2 cents

I am not letting her get away with it. Things are getting dealt with. When I said its only $3, I meant that is not enough for me to make a huge deal about; If theey are willing to fix it and take care of everything for me at the store level why do I need to call corp? Too many times things are made in to a much larger production than is needed. Half the time a manager does not need to be evolved but most people think they are the only ones that can help.
I think about these things differently because I am always on the reverse side of it. They are willing to make it right. That is all I need, anything more than that is a waste an greed.
WRONG> The greed is this person stealing. Plain and simple, she committed a crime! And now, you have helped her get away with it.
How many other people will she do this to?
Yeah, I know, it's only $3. However, how do you know that the next person isn't a family with kids who only go out once in a while as a special treat, who might not have an extra $3 in their account for someone to steal?
Most people live on a budget. If they pay for something, they expect to only pay what they authorize....the exact amount on the receipt. They don't expect to have someone steal more money from them.
Look at it this way... if this waitress does this to 5 people a week... at $3 per bill, that is $15 per week, $60 per month, $780 per year. If she were to do this to the same person each time (who would rather let Karma deal with it) this person will have paid her almost $800 per year that she didn't deserve. For some people that is a
month's rent!
BTW, by returning your $3, they aren't "making it right", they are allowing her to do this again to some other poor sap who might not catch it.
And how , may I ask, are you on the 'reverse side of it'? Are you a waiter by chance? If so, do you also skim from people when they pay their bill?
My mother-in-law is a waitress...a good one. She would be very offended (as am I) that you are letting this woman get away with this. She has seen too many 'servers' screw over too many customers, and get away with it.
And don't give me that about how 'servers only make a couple of dollars an hour" "They need tips to make it". That is not an excuse to allow someone to steal from others.... when someone takes a serving job, they know the pay scale and how they make their money.... and stealing isn't an acceptable form to do it in!
Not for nothing, Karen is right.
Also, It's not THAT hard to write down that account # on the card...
FWIW I make it a point to tip in cash only if possible. THere will always be situations where you just can't, but the trick is to minimize those.
I wasn't telling you to sue her. Just to prosecute her to fullest extent of the LAW. Wonder how many more times she could do it from Federal prison! None I would hope. Not asking for you to be greedy and sue just asking to stick up for you, me and others so we don't get swindled like you did. If we do nothing about it and let it continue to happen that is the same as saying that is alright. Getting in trouble at work isn't nothing like in trouble with the law. At work you get in trouble and don't like it you quit. In trouble with the law you gotta pay up or they come after you if you run from it. So help us all out and make a report to your CC company and law enforcement.
