Please raise your hand if you get the morning sunlight before the rest of North America.

I'm in Nova Scotia, so I'm in the Atlantic time zone (an hour ahead of New York) but I'm afraid that Thundergrowl, who is in Newfoundland, would still beat us by a half hour...

Actually, where I live, I can go about 40 miles east in the morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean in the morning, then 5 miles west to watch it set over the ocean in the evening. Well, not quite the ocean for the sunset... the Minas Basin, actually, but it's still salt water and you can't see land on the other side, so it's ocean enough :hick:

BTW, t3skidoo: Where are you at? I was always under the assumption that the only parts of North America on Atlantic time were the Maritime provinces of Canada and Labrador. Unless, of course, you're in the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico...

You're right, I don't know of anywhere in the US that's on Atlantic time. I'm "in the middle", but will be up in your neck of the woods here in a month or so, PEI and NS.

At the risk of making a fishing reference here, I'm in the same boat as this guy. In Nova Scotia, so I can head down the Highway I live on to see the sun rise over Country Harbour, or head 1/2 hour the other way to see it set over the Northumberland Straight.

Oh? What did you do to deserve that? :hick:

Ha, one of the perils of being a anaglyptographic anthropologist, I guess.

Nice. You study folk carvings for a living, or a hobby?

oldraven,

Mostly a curious tourist.  It would be nice to meet some FTBCF folks while I'm up there, and see their rides, of course.

I was always under the impression that a far eastern portion of Maine was on atlantic time like yourself.  Its only about a 3 mile section of land and I am not sure if they observe it or not.

Any time I've gone into ME was through the Calais crossing, which is on the eastern side of the state (almost on the Atlantic ocean), and when I crossed the border the time changed. There may be some islands on atlantic time, but I think the mainland is eastern...
