So a friend of mine talked her Dad into letting me drive his '71 442 clone to my high school prom back in the day....had a great time, scared the shiznit out of my fiance, which is always a plus. Surfing the internet today....
And I found the car for sale here:

Pretty cool. I was trying to figure out what the valve covers said and realized they were Mondello's he was the Olds god back in the day. Looks pretty cool.
Nice. My father had a '68 442 back in the day. He's always bragging about it. You know, the "They don't make 'em like they used to" routine. I always reply "Yeah, thank God - points distributors, carburetors, drum brakes, vinyl bench seats, overrated engines that only lasted 60k miles and only got 15MPG... those were the days!
...Of course I'm only bugging him. I'd love to have a '68 Olds 442. New cars are vastly superior to old ones in just about every measure (construction, comfort, ride, durability, and capability), but the old ones still had that important thing new ones are lacking: Style
People have got to stop apologising for liking cars that aren't Fords. And that's a beauty.
And it's not just style. The whole experience in an older machine is different. I find you gain a connection with every corner of those rigs. They may not have been the most communicative cars, but they were really predictable. It must have something to do with fewer parts and electronic nannies between your feet and hands and the tires. So much more personality.
Hell I feel like that about my car vs newer cars.
X2 i love the oolder cars, no way would i trade my good ole v8 for a computer controlled, front wheel drive, plastic, go-cart.......especially when some of those dumb sensors cost upward of 80 bucks, and make the car run like a 50 year old heap!!!!!!!!!
While that may be true (I don't get into making fun of Brand X cars myself, well, not too much anyway), you have to keep in mind this is a Ford Forum. It's not a Muscle Car forum or a Classic Car forum. It's a Ford forum, so naturally our interests tend to lean towards the Blue Oval. Heck, even Mustang guys get picked on here, so don't be surprised if GM and Mopar offerings aren't "appreciated".
That's on of the reason's I like my Fox. The only electronics that are in the car are just to control the engine. The car dosen't get mad if I slam the gas too hard or take a turn too quick and turn off the fun because it isn't *safe*.
I'll agree with that. While my car isn't as fast, it does no complaining.
Sweet, My step dad is in the middle of a ground up of a 71 olds cutlass 442. Beautiful cars.
Its a nice car, I think 17,900 is way to much though. Its obviously cloned as a w-30 model, as it has the reporduction ram air hood scoop. However, its got the wrong console, all kinds of aftermarket gagues, and a hole cut into the dash for the stereo. There are even wires hanging down on the drivers side. I know, I bought a 72 442 for a summer car last year, a real one, and it was less than that. And I've been under it, there isn't a speck of rust anywhere, and hasn't been hacked up. Just my little rant.
Mondello still is the olds kind, they are still around. lol
Yeah just saw him on TV the other day and found that out. Cool old guy.
