Title: Think I could sell the bird for $400?
Post by: Haystack on April 26, 2009, 07:11:28 PM
I really want to ditch the bird now. With 147,000 miles, its not in horrible shape, but leaves alot to be desired. I am planning on swapping out the motor, but am not specific to this car. I like the 86 cats. Alot. Everything about them tickles me just right. I have been looking around, and found a cougar 86 with around 110,000 on it. 302 v-8 that wont pass emissions.

It appears to have good tires, something my car needs, and also good exhaust. I really want to be back in a cat. Anyone want a bird missing the door panel and with the window off track?

oops, lied. Here's a link. 153,000 miles. Looks better off then my car right now, and has all the locks.

Keep the Bird and buy the Cat.Make sure it's THE car you want. It's easy to get wrapped up in wanting a car then after buying it,reality sets in and you have a car you didn't think it was. There are always more deals out there as well.Is it close to you?If so,drive it and see what you think after that.Check the suspension and everything else that can nickel and dime you to death. Before you know it,a $400.00 car costs a thousand bucks.

I know that first-hand. My $400 Maxima has so far cost me a $350 tranny and $60 axle (both of which I knew it needed when I bought it), $140 worth of tires, $60 worth of rear brakes, a $200 radiator, and an $80 battery. Now it needs rear shocks really bad, and that's another $80. The rear tires are about worn too, so there's another $140. I'm actually thinking of selling it while I can still make money on it...

Haystack: Before you sell the 'Bird, if you're planning on buying a Cougar ask yourself is it worth $400 to get rid of a parts car. $400 is only a few tanks of gas, but you could end up kicking yourself later on when you need parts...

The real problem is I can only have one car at a time right now. I live in an apartment a simply could not afford to insure two cars even if I wanted to. The bird would make a good parts car with what I already have put into it though. I do know the bird is probably more reliable, but I would almost kill to find a car without all the power . I know it is easy to convert over, but its a pain and parts are harder and harder to find for these cars every day. Plus the 86 body style is alot lighter, and you can buy the headlights at walmart for them.

I think I'm gonna see if it will last for a couple of weeks. If it does, I will pull the newer parts from the bird and throw them at it then list the bird for $300-$400.
