Title: Can i use a 93 cobra master cylinder on my 88 T-Bird?
Post by: Carpimp1987 on April 16, 2009, 04:45:21 PM
i got a Turbocoupe rear end with maybe mark 7 or sn95 discs on the back of it. got a rebuild POS on my 2nd one and 50resto has a 93 cobra master cylinder for $90 + $15 shipping. price wise it would be nice and then i would feel more safe.

or for $10 more "$100" i can get a 94-95 cobra master cylinder.

or this is kinda what coolcats.net said would work for $100 also.

need some advice on best wat to upgrade for the money so i can feel safe on the road again.

What are you planning for brakes up front?

If you're gonna do disk in the back with 11" disk and 73 mm calipers up front then you could go with the 84-86 SVO M/C.

Chuck would be the man to ask on this.  I would think the '93 Cobra M/C would be a little soft for your liking with that setup...

Before you do ANYTHING check to be certain of what you have in front...

see the master cylinder is a rebulit and a total POS so all i need for right now is a mster cylinder and i got disc all the way around right now.

So i should get the SVO 1 1/8" bore? or since i got Discs i was thinking i need the 93 or 94-95 Cobra master cylinder and 50resto has all the hook-ups to go with it for $35-40 depends on what model i get.

so i am looking at $135+ $15 + tax for the 93 set-up and $15 more for the 94-95 set-up.

Like I said, make sure you figure out what you got up front.  I'll wait for Chuck to chime in his thoughts as far as the SVO M/C....

FWIW I have one laying around unused with the conversion lines.  If you wish more info on THAT PM me as this really isn't a Marketplace type thread :hick:

See what you have; get a recommendation from Chuck ;)

if you are waiting on chuck, i wouldnt hold your breath till you post specifics about the current brakes on the car.

TC, mk7, or sn95 rears? need to know for sure.
stock, TC, or mk7 fronts? it makes a difference.
paul has stated it three times now, and no one is gonna help size a MC till we know what brakes you are running.

just repeating "discs all the way around" means nothing. if you dont know what youve got, take the wheels off. get us some good detailed pics, and we can probly figure it out for you.

Yup, can't help you until we know what you have...

On the fronts, it's hard to tell TC from MK7 fronts from the outside.
Best bet, if you don't know, is to pop one off, pull the inner pad and lay a ruler across the piston so we can get an idea of the size.  The MK7 calipers are physically larger than the TC/5.0 Must fronts, but hard to tell apart sometimes unless they are side-by-side.
