Title: Exhaust H-pipe Fittment
Post by: wayfastwhitey87 on March 28, 2005, 11:32:44 AM
hey,
i was woundering if a 2 1/2 inch summit h-pipe for a 86-93 stang will fit on to the stock mustang 2 1/4 shorty headers.  or do i have to get the 2 1/2 h-pipe and put a reducer on it and if i have to do that will that mess up the length of the h-pipe to the ler tubes.
thanks again
jason

If the headers are off a stock stang then yes the h-pipe will work

so 2 1/4 collector off a 87 mustang header will fit to a 2 1/2 inch h pipe

99.9% sure it should fit - I'd try it. (there's always murphy's law).  I used a 2 1/2" Bassani X with stock mustang headers with no trouble.

If you notice the 2 1/2" is the pipe diameter, not the collector size, as the collector is flared, and is larger than 2.5". The mustang header is domed shaped to be able to mate with the h-pipe. That's what seals the exhaust, is the clamping force of the two pipes crushing together
