It took a year to find this baby.
I just wanted to show what it used to look like.
this must have been around 1996.

What kind of paint is used up there? It must be crazy strong, because that's all that was holding your car together.LOL !!! LOL !!! Nice looking Cat in the picture.
Those hubcaps gave me an idea.Get the factory steel wheels widened a few inches, slap on some really wide tires and install the hubcaps.Sleeper, and don't you have a fondness for those old spoked caps anyway?LOL.
Yeah, Jerry those old spoke rims are the same ones we have on our Cat. :rollin:
of course he likes his spokes there still on the car in his avatar pic!!! So daminc, you owned your car since new? or what..
, man I bet when you uncovered it from being stored, that's how you expected to see it again. Instead you find it rusted.
Yea, It sucked.
here's a partial pic of the side of my car the year before I put it away.
Notice there's no rust at all on the side

here's a pic before that one. must be 98 or 99 (back when I thought Eric's site was better then sliced bread)
I must be replacing the back brakes
This was my baby most of it's life, and half of mine

Wow, thats pretty neat. Now I see why you're so determined to get it back to its previous glory.
They kinda grow on you after 20 years or so
why'd you park it?
i musta missed somthing..
I know what you mean about being attached to these cars.I've been driving '88 Birds since November of '87.Vinnietbird......it's just who I am ( weepy chick flick moment).
So that all happened during STORAGE? Wow. I would never have imagined that.
I put it away in winter of 2003 because I started remodeling our house and working building new homes 6 days a week. I let the registration run out and took the insurance off of it to save money knowing that I wouldn't have time to drive it. I figured I was going to drive it in a couple years and everything would be alright.
then I dug it out of the garage in the summer of 2006 and planned on repairing what rust I started to see, but it was a bad year because work was slow for 6 months and my wife had to have surgery on her back, so no money at all for half a year and living off our savings. (the other reason we didn't have cabinet doors in our kitchen)
things got back to normal in the spring of 2007 and I became a member here instead of being a permanent guest like I was for a couple of years. and the rest is fox rebuilding history. My wife told me to get another cougar, but I couldn't let it go. I had it for so long, that I figured I could at least try to rebuild it after it had gotten so bad. If the back and the front were as bad as the floor and rockers, I would have let it go already.
And for those who didn't hear what caused the severe rust..... My garage floor was soaking up water from the property like a giant sponge, and was always wet. I have since taken care of that problem.
And that's the story in 1000 word or less.
You should write a book, with lot's of pictures.I'd read it.
You already read half of it.
I know what you mean about these cars growing on you. I was about 8 or 9 when my parents bought my cougar new in 1988 I thought it was the baddest car around for a long time, and finally got to drive it to my Senior Prom in 1997 & then bought it from them a year later for $3000 with only 40,000 miles on her. This was the first car I bought myself & I'll never get rid of it. Good luck with your restoration!
Your parents were mean, I would give it to my kid if, I didn't want to make it faster. he can have it once
i'm done with it.LOL
Well they needed the money & if I didn't they were going to trade it for a different car.
yeah, know how it is....my '88 Ranger GT i SPECIAL ordered in '88 got hit in 2001, and it still looks just like this. i just can't let her go after 357,000 miles. got her the week i started dating my wife....just means to much.....

lol, I've got some catching up to do.
They kinda grow on you after anytime. lol, these are wonderful cars.
Ahhhh yea now the garage floor sounds familiar, forgot about it. :hick: Interesting.
Ill second vinnie, Id read the book too and then ask you to write more books. LOL About what I have no clue but I'd still demand more books anyway:rollin: I think everyone else would too.
