This is the only statement I'll make:
ยง 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.
(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

LOL yea you could make the argument anyway! haha That is correct though, someone was talking about it on another board, most don't know about it, I didn't, sounds like a serviceman/woman would recognize it instantly.

Well, that's how I feel, and my avatar is going to stay that way for quite some time I have a feeling....
Everyone should know the Flag code... Its important in my eyes.

I can finally display my flag now after having to withdraw it for 8 years. Oh, and many on the other side were threatened with their life for displaying their flag upside-down during the previous 8 year nightmare. So, you are neither creative nor unique in your display, you are simply acting as the opposition - not a true sign of distress (as I would never have flown my flag upside-down).

And you're gloating...while being somewhat demeaning because his political views differ from yours. Withdrawing your flag for 8 years only to re-deploy it now.....You should display that flag regardless. As a veteran, I'm dismayed by that statement.
ENOUGH! BOTH OF YOU. As I said this was not an anti-Obama post.
Read deeper and maybe you'll see it.... ;)

Actually, the only time I heard of people's lives being threatened for displaying the flag as I have is when it just happened to be flown under a Mexican flag on United States Soil.
As a Vet, I can understand why that would piss people off. I was Pissed myself.
So what if I'm not "creative" or "Unique" in your eyes. The Flag code was made Law on December 22 1942, so I'm sure I'm not the first person ever to fly our Flag according to it, nor would I be the first one to quote the Code itself.
So..... your point?
I believe that with the way this country is right now (the recent elections are a very very small part of it) we ARE in great danger.... to Life and Property.

LOL My post was not anti-Obama either. I will give him his fair shot at the whole Presidency. If he does good, I will praise him.
And regardless, I'm not worried about him. Its everybody else, and the stupid people I know to be in this world. God help us if something happens to him.
BTW Paul, V was an AWESOME Movie.
And Ironically enough, I'll be at a bonfire tonight LOL

I'm neither gloating nor being demeaning. Simply pointing out the obvious - I've seen the threats and this is hypocritical, no matter how y'all try to spin it. I'm out of here - this is not a discussion I want to have and the viewpoints of all involved here are already known and I don't need the bitterness at this time. See ya!

I'm aggravated as well. Birdman following the flag code, though it is possibly just his belief that this is a time of dire distress, is not disrespectful to the flag itself or our nation.
Refusing to fly the flag just because you don't like the administration is absolutely silly. Patriotic != agreeing with the leadership.
I still feel very proud to live here, even though I have little if any confidence in our next president and disagree with him fundamentally. I too will give him his try and hope he proves my fears wrong. That would be nothing short of awesome. But..America "love it or leave it" and I still do love it, why shouldn't I just because my guy didnt get the vote!
Regardless of what DOES happen, I will remain as patriotic as I have ever been, because of the basic foundational freedoms and opportunitis we have and will likely still have because no president can just flip a swtich and take those all away at will.
In my eyes, its the people of this nation that make it what it is, and whoever is in the oval office cant switch that on or off either.

I read it Vinnie, and I thought it was well said.
It just so happens that I live in a prominently African American Neighborhood. Its pretty sad when I have to go outside at 2Am, 3AM and then 3:45AM because some ignorant people are outside trying to cause Havoc in MY backyard. Lighting off fireworks, ONE was trying to break into the bird, and (now I don't have proof, but I have theories) since I am one of the Few Caucasian people in the neighborhood, our cars WERE egged and I was threatened with bodily harm. This happened to other Caucasians in my area as well. Now I know this is a bunch of stupid people, but when people are yelling "F" McCain and "Black Power", I feel that my statement is appropriate.
And I do understand that these were ill educated people technically in the "Lower" class, and by no means representative on African Americans that I know and am friends with, but the more ignorant population seems to have reacted with a "we can do whatever the F we want" attitude starting with the election being called last night.
I think my statement is appropriate.

Guy Fawkes represented terrorism, and fighting for the right to have your own faith, against persecution.
Really, it sounds like you're talking about an assassination attempt of a new successor.
This is an incredibly vague thread, and can be easily taken a number of ways.

Sad part is it would have happened either way. If McCain would have won im sure areas that are the reverse of your neighborhood would have acted much like they did around you. Its sad that this was such an important election and so many people where uneducated on both sides.

I did read the entire thread, and I didn't miss it. Calm down, man. Honestly, if you don't want people to misinterpret your point, then spit the fargin' thing out! It's like passing a loaded gun around the room and saying, "This is for tenderising meat. It is not a gun.", then being surprised someone pulled the trigger.
If it's not what everybody else seems to be saying, where is the Irony? I must have missed some anti-government event that happened some time between last night and today, because if something like that did happen, then I would get the irony based on your terrorist/anti-government basis.

I don't think I can make it any plainer for you.
Groundbreaking election with an uncanny support from youthful voters (something historically lacking) -- people actually doing a civic duty as a citizen within a nation that allows them --nee - empowers them to.
Followed by a day centered around an individual who embodies the exact antithesis of this.

Just wanting that job earns my respect.I think it's easy to pass judgement sitting in our living rooms about people and situations. Most of the opinions people have right now are based on what someone said about someone else. You can hear a lot of things, but you should never judge a man by what you hear. Our new President deserves a chance to prove himself before people get too harsh on him (not that anyone here was.....or wasn't).I have NEVER met another man, woman,or other worthy of judging another person.....ever.That job belongs to a much higher power.Everyone has their own opinions, that's all good and well, but I was just always taught to never, ever, judge another person, and that teaching came from my father,a career Marine.Crazy, but in my eyes,he's right.

i was once told that its both adult and human to judge. without judgement you would have no opinion. there is nothing wrong with judgement. its those that actually think they are better than every on else that are wrong. everybody is worth exactly what every other person is worth. people make actions that creates re actiond. people make both good dicisiond and bad decisions. have different strengths and weaknesses. were all human from mother theresa to the neighborhood drug dealer. its our actions that make us who we are, and its those actions judged by others that figurativall give us our worth. nobody is perfect.
i dont belive for a second anyone can walk through like without judging people. i may see a cracked out druggy or drunk passed out somewhere and i can tell you inside my head ill judge him but that doesnt mean i think im better than him weather id say something about it to someone else or not.
meh...sorry bout the rant. it doesnt really articulate my point like i wanted.

Or for the Phils to win the Series. I know it was very limited, but it was still shameful. In my opinon, rioting, by anyone, for any reason, is indicative of one thing: a total lack of respect for others' property. The key word here is "respect", and I believe that it's lacking in some because they lack a work ethic. When you respect something that belongs to someone else, you're saying, "you worked hard for this, and I have no right to destroy it or take it from you. Your work should be respected, and whether you used it to acquire a house, a car, or a hundred pink flamingos is no business of mine -- that you worked for it demands my respect (or your dad worked for it, or your grand-dad, you get the picture)." Rioters seem to lack this and I think that parents have a solemn duty to instill this into their children. When someone riots, the first place to look for blame is to them, and the second place is to everyone who influenced them. Friends don't let friends riot.
Respect is deeply lacking in this country. Perhaps it's from a lack of humility...
Title: Remember, Remember......

I agree, but I'd call those the second and third people to blame. The first people to blame would be the useless rioters themselves.
