Title: Anyone watching "Idol" this year???
Post by: LittleAngel1198 on May 15, 2008, 02:24:03 PM
I am really hoping David Cook wins.... he kicks ass. BTW, I found some of his studio recordings on Limewire... yep, I'll have a CD by the end of the day. :D

Doesn't seem to matter what song he sings... he does it very well. BTW, this is the first year I have actually watched it regularly... I'm not usually into it, but since this guy has been on, it's been good.
He kicked ass on his songs Tuesday night.

You can download any Idol performances from this season on iTunes.

I'm not big into that show, but from what I have seen, the final two definitely deserve to be there.

I don't have i-tunes. but limewire works for me.

I do not like David Archuletta... he's a little dork and he doesn't have a very good range of abilities. He's only good at singing the ballads, and he really needs to have more range than that.  I really think the only reason he is in the finals is because of all the little teeny boppers.... I could almost bet that when he was in school, no girls could stand him, but now that he's on tv, they all love him.
If he wins, it won't be based on his talent.

You can download itunes for free

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

You dont need an ipod or anything; I dont have one.  But you can buy pretty much any song ever made, you can buy or rent movies, etc.

David Archuletta is a very very good singer.  Yes, his voice leans toward ballad type songs, but he definitely has the vocal talent.  I just dont think he's found the right style of song for an upbeat sound

The only thing Archuletta has over cook is the "Young" and "adorability" factor. Cook is definitely a more confident performer and I can see doing a lot more things. That and the fact that he wasn't really going to try out anyway he was there at auditions to support his brother, the randomness of it all has my seal of approval.

I agree; Cook has a lot more confidence and just really knows how to put on a good performance.  Archuletta needs some experience under his belt.

I was shocked when I heard that last night Alex.  It seems this is his destiny.

No.  I'd rather read a 100 page paper written by Carpimp than watch that vomit.

:p

They always get rid of the good ones early.
the one from Ireland had a great voice, and so did the one from Australia.
Cook will do better in the long haul because he's not stuck in one style. He can rock and do ballads
David A. is just stuck in the ballads and isn't outgoing enough to be a front man. plus he sings in the same key and pitch, which makes him boring after about a song and a half.
But thats just another musicians point of view of the competition. I see things different compared to most people in the crowd.
Besides Canadian Idol is better for raw talent. That show rocks

I'm sick of the whole thing. David A. lives prolly half a mile from me. I just am sick of hearing about it on the local news, radio stations, ect.

That's exactly how I felt about that crooner from Buffalo a few years back.

Daminc, that's exactly what I was meaning.. David A's pitch and tone never change... he has no range. (I sing too, so I know a little about that too)....

I also liked Carley, from Ireland... I was sad to see her go...she should have been in the top 3.

My wife really loves it and I have to admit, I enjoy it too. I like the beginning when they're py, I like the middle when they're improving and I like the end when they're really good. BTW LittleAngel, I agree 100% with what you said. Think of this though, it will be better for David C when David A wins. David A will be under contract to AI and will have to sing all of the  they want him to sing. When David C takes second, he'll be free to sign with someone else and sing hit songs!

There's always talk on the radio mid week and the one thing that has changed much this year - they don't care about finding "untapped talent" any longer like they used to. Cook has already had a recording contract in the past as do many of the other people who had made it into the top few picked out. If the show stuck to its roots about LOOKING for talent, not exposing those who have already been exposed and failed, the singers may be less experienced but it would make a lot more sense.

Just for this reason, I hope the other David wins. He obviously is starting out but in my opinion, there just shouldn't be any reason for anyone who has had anything more than private events or records to be on the show. Otherwise, why not just stick all the big names on the show and call it good?

That's true, the real winners of the show don't win.
Once you win, they make you sing  that you would never want to sing in a million years. then you fade away like all the rest (where's Ruben?)

Not like it really matters.. The top 5 all usually get contracts at some point LOL.

I also believe an artist needs to write what they sing in order for it to sound believable - there isn't enough of this today. That's for another show on a different day though. I don't pay attention as really I don't care, but I'm sure Cook as written something at some point - I can't say the same about David A. I just figured I'd point out the issue of people with professional experience getting somewhere in the show. Either way I'm sure David Cook will now succeed and beyond that of the other as he's got the talent and no father getting in the way (IE - NOT HELPING like he thinks he is) that gets banned from places by putting himself where he shouldn't be (I don't know the full story, but if David A's dad is anything like he sounds, I'd hate being around him). Another pointless news story that is found everywhere and it's impossible to ignore unless living under a rock.

I agree with you about not being enough artists that are writing their own songs. But you also have to think, what if people have a good voice but aren't creative enough to write something? What if someone can write the best songs but a lawnmower sings better than them? People do what they're good at. I'm sure the person writing the song doesn't care that they're not performing it, they're just glad it's being performed.

I agree Alex... I can sing, but I can't write lyrics or music... I can barely read music! Seriously.... I sing by hearing the music first, then picking up the notes. It's how I've always done it.
For some reason I just can't figure out how to read the music, but hearing it.... no problem.

Exactly. Thats how american idol is anyway. It isnt about talent, its about popularity.
